MACo’s Board of Directors met this week for their Spring Retreat. Hosted annually by the MACo President in his or her home county, this retreat brings together county leaders from across the state to discuss local policy and explore challenges both common and unique to their jurisdictions. A tour of the hosting county provides a backdrop for local priorities, while meetings with legislators and community partners provide a forum for strategizing around statewide issues affecting all counties.

President Wilbur Levengood’s tour of Caroline County focused on farming, environmental stewardship, and the economic development-related challenges of being a border county with a neighboring state. The Board’s meetings and discussions with guests focused on solar facilities siting, state policies affecting employers, medical transport funding, expanding broadband access, and working with state and federal partners on emergency response.
