February 2025

Project Update

Kung Hee Fat Choy! Earlier this month on February 3, Aloha Hālawa District Partners (AHDP) led a community meeting that took place at the Aloha Stadium Hospitality Room. The event featured a presentation by AHDP, followed by a Community Q&A, providing local residents and interested parties with the opportunity to engage directly with AHDP and the state project team. A copy of AHDP’s presentation and Community Q&A can be found here on the NASED website. Further opportunities for the community to engage will be announced later this year.

AHDP was selected as the single preferred offeror at the end of October 2024 and since then has been working together with the state to resolve a range of technical and other matters and execute the relevant agreements by June 2025.

The NASED procurement process remains an active procurement process. Further details of AHDP’s proposal will be made public through community outreach activities that will be conducted during the diligence and discussion phase.

Businesses or organizations that would like to register their interest with AHDP may submit their contact information on the “Doing Business” page on the project website: https://nased.hawaii.gov/doing-business/.

FAQs

Q: How will NASED affect the Swap Meet & Marketplace?

A: The Stadium Authority values the Swap Meet & Marketplace as a key feature of NASED as a community district. We want the Swap Meet & Marketplace to remain central to the future of the district, and accommodations of vendors’ needs will be integrated into NASED’s programming. During the procurement process, the preferred offeror will be envisioning how to incorporate the Swap Meet & Marketplace into their designs as it will remain a key piece of a vibrant entertainment district.

  • The Swap Meet & Marketplace will continue to operate in the Upper Hālawa Lot while the new Aloha Stadium is being constructed.
  • The Stadium Authority is maintaining ongoing communications with Swap Meet & Marketplace vendors as the NASED planning progresses.
  • A stadium representative attends vendor meetings to provide updates and answer questions.

The Stadium Authority is taking proactive steps to ensure a seamless transition for vendors as they prepare for the upcoming relocation this summer. An informational vendor meeting outlining details regarding the relocation process will be scheduled shortly. This initiative aims to address concerns and provide clarity on logistical arrangements. In collaboration with Sodexo Management, the Stadium Authority will continue open communication via email and posts regarding all operational aspects of the move.

Aloha Ryan Andrews

Aloha Stadium Manager Ryan Andrews has announced his decision to step down from his role, effective February 2, 2025, to pursue an opportunity more closely aligned with his professional passions. Beginning February 3, 2025, Andrews will assume the role of Director of Student Recreation Services at the University of Hawai'i.

“It has been an amazing experience and professional growth opportunity being a part of the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District (NASED) initiative and it is clear the project and the team is in a great position to move forward on delivering not just a new stadium but a community our residents are hoping for,” said Andrews. “For me personally, this transition reflects a desire to return to my roots in program and facility management—areas that inspire me most and allow me to create environments that positively impact the lives of students.”

During the interim period, Chris Sadayasu, Deputy Stadium Manager, will oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of Aloha Stadium and the NASED project. This transition will ensure continuity while the Stadium Authority finalizes plans for a more permanent management structure.

“I would like to thank Ryan for his invaluable guidance, dedication, and support during his time with Aloha Stadium and the NASED project,” said Sadayasu. “His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the path forward, and we are grateful for his many contributions. As I step into this role, I look forward to building on the strong foundation he has helped establish and continuing the great work ahead.”

Andrews joined Aloha Stadium in 2012 and has served as Stadium Manager since October 2021. During his tenure, he successfully led the team through the challenges posed by the stadium’s closure, driving creative uses of the facility, maximizing revenue opportunities, and advancing the planning for the NASED project.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Stadium Authority Board for their unwavering support and guidance, and to my exceptional team for their resilience and hard work,” Andrews said. “Together, we have achieved significant milestones, and I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished during this transformative time for Aloha Stadium.”

Stadium Authority Chair Brennon Morioka praised Andrews' leadership and contributions during a pivotal period. “Ryan has guided the stadium team with dedication and creativity during a time of great change and challenges. His efforts have laid a strong foundation for the future of the NASED project. While we are sad to see him go, we are thrilled that he is pursuing his passion in facility and program management at the University of Hawai'i. We wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter.”

Although stepping down as Manager, Andrews will continue to support the NASED project by assisting with the transition and contract negotiations through June 2025.

Reflecting on his tenure, Andrews added, “It has been an absolute honor to serve as Stadium Manager and contribute to this iconic venue’s history. I look forward to watching the bright future of Aloha Stadium and this incredible community unfold.”
