The state and Aloha Hālawa District Partners (AHDP) continue to make steady progress through the diligence and discussion phase - the third and final phase of the procurement process for the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District (NASED).
Last month, the NASED project team announced an extension of its deadline for negotiations with AHDP through mid-August 2025, allowing more time for thorough discussions and planning.
In addition, key representatives of the project team attended the Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Conference this month in Arlington, Texas, home of the AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, Choctaw Stadium, Texas Live!, Six Flags Over Texas, and the Arlington Convention Center, replete with hotels, restaurants, and retail facilities. The conference sessions featured notable representatives from the latest projects in the development industry and highlighted the shift from event-centric development to event integrated community districts. This helped further our knowledge of successful ways to enhance collaboration among communities and stakeholders with key lessons-learned to help bring the best value and long-term sustainability to NASED. The additional special events included site tours of the sports arenas and guest speakers such as Arlington Mayor Jim Ross and Executive Director Marty Wieder of the Arlington Economic Development Corporation.

Q: How is the State’s NASED project connected to the City’s TOD efforts in this area?
A: The State’s New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District, or NASED, encompasses a large portion of the Hālawa TOD area. Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), as stated by the City, results in:
- a mix of housing choices;
- employment and commercial opportunities;
- new recreational spaces;
- reduced household transportation costs and dependence on automobiles;
- enhanced abilities to walk, bike and take transit for daily needs.
The Stadium Authority is overseeing the NASED project, which entails the stadium and surrounding surface parking lots. The Stadium Authority and other State agencies coordinated closely with the City on the development of the TOD Plan to realize these benefits in Hālawa, and the City continues to collaborate with our team on the project’s development.

Transforming Stadium History into Lasting Public Art
PHASE 2 BEGINS
Follow the Journey as Stadium History Becomes Public Art
We’re excited to announce that Bobby Trice of Bobby Trice Art has been selected as the winning artist for the Walls of Legacy: Aloha Stadium Sculpture Challenge!
Out of an incredible pool of talented local artists, Bobby’s concept stood out for its creativity and strong connection to the Aloha Stadium’s 49-year legacy. His vision not only honors the history of the stadium but transforms its iconic corrugated metal and stadium seats into public art that will live on for the public to enjoy at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet & Marketplace.
As we enter Phase 2 of the project, Bobby will begin the process of bringing his concept to life — using salvaged pieces of the original stadium to create a visually striking, photo-worthy sculpture. His work will become a nostalgic landmark and a lasting tribute to the memories, milestones, and moments that made Aloha Stadium such a special place for our community.

Relocation set for this fall as Upper Hālawa Lot takes shape
Exciting progress continues at the Aloha Stadium Upper Hālawa Lot with the relocation of the Swap Meet & Marketplace.
Crews are completing the final phases of restriping throughout the lot, helping define vendor stalls, walkways, and traffic flow. Key components are beginning to move into place, including retail containers, which will soon be relocated to their designated areas, marking a major step forward in preparing the site for activation.
“Our goal is to continue operating at our current location without interruption while creating a smooth, phased transition,” said Interim Stadium Manager Chris J. Sadayasu. “This approach gives our vendors the time they need to comfortably settle into their new spaces without feeling rushed and allows us to address any operational adjustments ahead of the full opening.”
We appreciate the continued support of our vendors, customers, and community as we prepare to welcome everyone to an improved Swap Meet & Marketplace experience.

Community Voices: The Next Generation's Vision for Aloha Stadium
With the next generation of keiki set to be the ones playing, performing, and cheering in the new Aloha Stadium, we asked them: "If you could design the new Aloha Stadium, what special features or fun activities would you include to make it the coolest place in Hawai'i?"
Noah - age 10, Favorite sport: gymnastics
"I would love for it to be like Disneyland with rides, an arcade, and snacks like churros, ice cream and gelato. Maybe fun things too like karaoke, water slides and a zip line. Another cool thing would be go carts and a really big aquarium so people could learn about the tropical fish in Hawai'i."
Hailey - age 8, Favorite sport: gymnastics
"A gymnastics and play area with swings, obstacle courses and balance beams. And a water play zone like a pool because it's always hot over there."
