Some Thank Yous!
As we roll into our Fall and Christmas season, all of us at The Mulberry Bush Book Stores in Qualicum Beach and Parksville would like to thank you for your amazing, continuing support since Covid began six months ago. We know you have other places that you could find books, so making a determined effort to shop regularly with us isn’t something we take lightly. Please accept our deep gratitude for keeping us open and able to serve you.
We especially want to thank our team of brilliant booksellers who, along with us, have weathered the stresses and strains of Covid, plus all the changes that have come with doing things differently, and all with enthusiasm, hard work, and good humour. We couldn’t do it without you, Antonia, Jan, Marianne, and Mitzi.

Sadly, at the end of September we said goodbye to Rachael, our Parksville store resident author. We thank her for all her hard work and wish her well in all future endeavours. We’re now delighted to welcome Susan Haigh to our team of professional booksellers. She is a seasoned bookseller, and as a big reader, she knows her books! So please come in and say “hi” to Sue the next time you are at the Thrifty’s Centre.
New Fall Books!
We’re already starting to see a bumper crop of new and terrific books coming into our stores, with lots more to come. Many of our favourite authors are going to be on our Fall lists. We’re excited, and we can’t wait to talk to you about the books we’ve been reading!
Order Early This Year!
We’ve been hearing from our publishers and distributors that there will be stress on the book industry supply chain this Fall leading up to Christmas. With this in mind, when you’re thinking about ordering books for Christmas, the sooner you get your orders in to us, the better chance you'll have of getting them in a timely manner. We’ll do everything we can to ensure that your orders arrive on time, and that our shelves will be full of great choices when you come in to browse.

Forever Terry:
A Legacy in Letters
by Darrell Fox

A tribute to Terry Fox in letters by famous and not-so-famous Canadians. All author proceeds are being donated to the Terry Fox Foundation. I cried, but I also laughed and was reminded just how amazing this humble young man truly was.

The Pull of the Stars
by Emma Donoghue

Award-winning author Emma Donoghue has crafted a captivating account of 3 days during the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918, set in a Dublin maternity ward. Told with tenderness and love, this is a life changing story in many different ways.

by Joseph O'Connor

A young aspiring writer by the name of Bram Stoker moves from his native Dublin to England in order to resurrect and manage the iconic Lyceum theatre. Set against the intoxicating backdrop of Victorian London, we meet a mercurial cast of characters that inspire Stoker's most famous piece of literature: Dracula. A tale that is razor sharp and witty, haunting and sorrowful, about unsung heroes and the tolerance, unconditional love, tenderness and forgiveness of marriage and friendships.

Field Notes From and Unintentional Birder
by Julia Zarankin

Not only a memoir about reinventing oneself in midlife, this lovely book is also a tribute to the beauty of nature, and especially our feathered friends!
This is a book for bird lovers as well as lovers of fine literary memoirs. It is introspective and reveals how we sometimes come to find ourselves in the most unexpected ways. It teaches the importance of observation and looking up. To sum this book up in one word? Delightful!

The Thursday Murder Club
by Richard Osman

Four septuagenarian detectives with a few tricks up their sleeves.

A female police woman looking for her first big case.

Two brutal murders (plus a couple of others that turn up.)

Welcome to...

Characters that are characters, clever twists, laugh-out-loud funny, and utterly delightful. Just the thing we need to entertain us right now. I loved it and you will too.

Indians on Vacation
by Thomas King

I laughed out loud on the first page. And the next. And the one after that. And so it went. I love how King brings the reader back -from flashbacks and commentary - with the conversational, "So, we're in Prague..." Witty and insightful, with deadpan dialogue. Highly recommended (the Giller Prize folks agree!)
