Reflection from Fr. Joseph

Since arriving at St. Jude's, a few Scouts have done their Eagle Scout projects at our parish. Robert Hancox put up the outdoor stations of the cross that you see when you drive down to Abbey Road, while Chris Maslar landscaped next to the driveway leading down to the Rectory Offices.

A new Eagle Scout project is beginning this month - Albert Sturhahn will be building a prayer garden and fire pit on the lawn across from the Rectory Offices. It will be a great blessing to the parish - we hope to host parish groups next summer for bonfires, and parishioners would be welcome to come and pray, or rest on benches, surrounded by statues of Our Lady and the saints. It will be reclaiming a part of our campus that has been overgrown with weeds, beautifying it and blessing our parish for years to come. Over the next couple months, he will need assistance as he levels the ground, builds a small retaining wall, pours gravel, and sets pavers. Let me know if you might be interested in helping with this project.

We also have a few other Eagle Scout projects in mind for our campus, so if you or your child is approaching that rank in Scouts, let me know and we'd be delighted to have their project here at St. Jude's!

A couple of other physical plant updates...

We finally have three bids for the sound system, and there is one front-running candidate who comes in within budget and has excellent references. We hope to have the new system installed by Christmas. This new system will use our existing speakers (which work perfectly fine) but with updated microphones and technology which can amplify the sound to a much better level. This company will also provide a complete renovation of the sound system in the Cry Room and the Social Hall. We are hopeful for a major improvement very soon!

And our Building Committee continues to meet as we get ready to build a new religious education building on our campus. The likely location is the grassy field across from the plaza. We are looking at a two-story building, with classrooms as well as a youth room and a large adult meeting room. We have hired Verdi Construction to design a rough draft of the plans along with a mock-up of what the building might look like, which we will share with the parishioners when we have it (hopefully by the end of the year, or early January). I and Bob Frawley, who is selflessly and heroically leading the Building Committee, met with Verdi this past Wednesday to move these plans along. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses!

Italian Festival Results

Thanks to all the Parishioners who volunteered, helped out or just attended. The Italian festival and raffle combined made $57,000 for this year. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A GIFT OF LOVE AND PRAYER

The Healing Shawl Ministry has just given away its 1000th Healing Shawl! Although the majority of them have been given to friends and family of Saint Jude parishioners, they have also been requested for people in other U.S. states as well as England, Germany and Australia.

The ministry started in 2007 with 10 women passionate about knitting, crocheting, and making a positive impact in people's lives.

Each shawl is lovingly crafted in prayer and blessed to offer comfort and hope to those in need. The ministry continues to touch lives near and far, connecting a community of care through every stitch. Newer offerings from the ministry are Prayer Squares in 2018 and Faith Fish in 2024.

These smaller sacramentals can be held in your hand or kept near your bed as a reminder of the loving God who is reaching out through the work of this Ministry.
