LION Kindergarten Signing Day:

Welcoming Our Newest Cubs

On Saturday, May 20th, LION Charter School had the pleasure of hosting new and current LION Families for our inaugural Kindergarten Signing Day. This event gave families a unique opportunity to celebrate the major milestone of transitioning from preschool to kindergarten, engage and interact with LION staff, and enroll their children in-person. The day was filled with fun activities, including taking pictures with LION-themed photo props and receiving LION-branded swag, school supplies, toys, and prizes. As is typical of LION, lifelong friends were made!

High School Career Day

“Challenges are every day that ends in y” ~

Evelyn Alvarez

On Friday, May 26th, our LION 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students participated in our annual Career Day. Students and staff gathered in the LION’s Den for the Keynote Address from The Honorable Cynthia Isales, NYC Civil Court Judge. Judge Isales spoke about the challenges she faced on her path to becoming a judge. As a Latina from the Bronx who lived through many hardships and abuse, her story resonated with many. Judge Isales also shared that her path was not linear; it took someone else complimenting her work as a paralegal to spark an interest in her future career. Now she is proud to serve as a NYC Civil Court Judge and share her incredible story with others.

Showcasing Character through Athletics

Middle School athletics continues to expand as student interests prompt staff to offer new opportunities for participation. This spring season, 4th and 5th Grade students were able to participate in track and field for the first time, and girls’ volleyball followed their varsity fall season by adding a junior varsity team to their spring season.
