On September 21, Governor Whitmer rolled out a 2.1 billion MI New Economy plan with three pillars. These pillars are intended to produce results of better jobs, better skills, and more people re-entering the workforce. They are also designed to encourage people to stay and move to Michigan.
Pillar #1 focuses on growing Michigan’s middle class by eliminating poverty and lifting families into the middle class with goals of increasing the number of adults with a post-secondary credential, lift 100,000 families out of working poverty, and provide access to low or no-cost childcare for 150,000 families.
Pillar #2 supports small businesses with goals that include being a Top 10 state in three areas: small business job growth and revenue, household income growth, and growth in venture capital funding.
Pillar #3 builds strong communities by obtaining 100% access to high-speed internet and 95% adoption by households along with 75,000 new or rehabilitated housing units.
