RACHAEL'S PICK
The Longevity Paradox:
How to Die Young at a Ripe Old Age
by Steven R. Gundry, MD
Building on the runaway success of The Plant Paradox, Gundry further develops his ideas on reducing lectins in your diet, growing "good gut buddies," and lifestyle choices designed to help you live healthier, longer. Includes information on food, supplements, intermittent fasting, stress-reduction and restricting your exposure to chemicals and blue-light, plus recipes.
TOM'S PICK
The Island of Sea Women
by Lisa See
This story is focused on the Korean island of Jeju. It follows the lives of two Haenyos (deep diving) women through a long period of war and peace. The prose is excellent, and pulls you into the story and characters lives. You feel what they're feeling, and it's a book I would recommend to our readers.
JAN'S PICK
Adventures of a Young Naturalist: The Zoo Quest Expeditions
by David Attenborough
Sir David Attenborough shows us the "behind the scenes" of his travels for the BBC in the 1950’s. Funny, poignant, and thought-provoking he brings the people and the creatures he encountered brilliantly to life.
MARIANNE'S PICK
Heat Wave:
A Paradise Cafe Mystery
by Maureen Jennings
Charlotte Frayne is an extremely likable junior investigator, single handedly searching for answers in two seemingly unrelated cases. Set in Toronto in the mid 1930's, this well written mystery was a delight to read.
BARB'S PICK
The Lost Gutenberg:
The Astounding Story of One Book's Five-Hundred Year Odyssey
by Margaret Leslie Davis
This rich tale of a lost copy of the Gutenberg Bible through five centuries reveals the riveting history of its wealthy and obsessive rare-book collectors. A fascinating read!
LEIGH'S PICK
The Dream Peddler
by Martine Fournier Watson
I loved the beautiful, lyrical writing and the poignant story. An excellent read .
