Events + Opportunities for California Art Educators

Introducing the NEW California Art Education Association Monthly Newsletter!

You asked, we listened! You can now look forward to ONE organized and consolidated CAEA newsletter each month. We will continue to share association news, professional development and advocacy opportunities, Youth Arts Month events, social meet-ups and much more in ONE monthly email blast! I encourage you to follow us on instagram for even more informal and regular updates!

Why change? Over the last three years, CAEA leadership has made a more concerted effort to solicit regular feedback from our members. Town halls, conference surveys, and informal area meet-ups have given our state council a better understanding of what the community needs. One common theme? The need for increased clarity, efficiency, and transparency in our communications. CAEA's State Council formed a task force to research best practices and propose changes, and ultimately voted to adopt a new communications plan. If you have any questions or additional suggestions about this process, please reach out!

Want to be a bigger part of changes like this? Consider joining the CAEA State Council! You can learn more about the state council and how to get more involved on our website.

Maryann Schultz, Northern Area YAM Chair, noted, " We were honored to have the Ruth Jansen Award for Best of Show judged by PBS KVIE's art curator, Jill who chose “The Conflagration of Man” by Parker Holzgang.Parker is a student of Amanda McDonald from El Camino High school in the San Juan Unified School District."

This is what Jill had to say about Parker's work, "The Conflagration of Man" by Parker Holzgang is alive! The threatening flames are beautifully rendered with sparks and embers spreading beyond the already blackened trees engulfed in clouds of smoke in contrast to the lush green trees the animals are fleeing to. Bathed in the yellow light from the flames, the imminent destruction and loss of the natural world beyond the divide feels palpable. It was chosen "Best of Show" for its powerful message that works even without the thoughtful text.
