We would like to take a moment to introduce our two new Program Coordinators, who started with us in early January:
 
David Alvarez is our Program Coordinator for CCHCP'S Equity and Inclusion department. He assists our Program Manager with logistics for cultural competency training for health and social service organizations.  David graduated from the University of Washington in June 2018 with a BA in Communication and minored in both Diversity and Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies. David was heavily involved with research and teaching at the UW Center of Communication, Difference, and Equity and has additional teaching experience abroad.

Michaela Kiley  is our Language Access Program Coordinator for CCHCP. She supports both the Bridging the Gap medical interpreter training department and the Connecting to Care: Patient Guide department with program development, marketing, and outreach. In 2016, she graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication and International Development Studies. Having worked a s an English as a Second Language instructor in Vermont and South Korea, she is passionate about education and is excited to bring her experience in intercultural communication to this position.

Additionally, we have multiple trainings scheduled in 2019 for all of our programs. These courses are a great opportunity for your organization to become a licensed agency, add an authorized trainer, or attend the course as a refresher. Equity and Inclusion: Cultural Competency Training of Trainers:
 
Dates:  March 18-22, 2019 in Seattle, WA
Description:  This 40-hour Cultural Competency Training of Trainers (TOT) will build your internal training capacity, meet mandates for culturally and linguistically appropriate services and provide best practices on equity and inclusion. In this five-day course, trainers will spend time not only learning the curriculum but will also work on effective training techniques while engaging in peer-reviewed training practice. Participants leave this course with all the tools needed to conduct cultural competency trainings and practice equity and inclusion. Bridging the Gap: Training of Trainers
 
Dates: April 22-26, 2019 in Seattle, WA
Description: As the demand for professional training grows across the U.S. and beyond, our licensing programs allows organizations to teach our world-renowned medical interpreting training curriculum while ensuring that all participants receive the highest quality training possible. This five-day course provides individuals with the curriculum, skills and expertise necessary to offer Bridging the Gap for Medical Interpreters in their own organizations. Bridging the Gap 40-Hour Medical Interpreter Training
 
Dates: March 25-29, 2019 in Seattle, WA
Description: Bridging the Gap is a 40-hour professional development program that prepares bilingual individuals to work as medical interpreters. It is used to train novice and experienced medical interpreters, and it is accepted by both accredited national certifying bodies, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI). Connecting to Care: 24-Hour & Training of Trainers
 
Dates: April 29-May 1, 2019 in Seattle, WA
Description: This 24-hour Training Institute trains experienced interpreters in how to become patient guides over 3 day of intensive instruction and practice. Participants may attend the Patient Guide training in addition to a Bridging the Gap Training of Trainers to receive the Training skills portion. Individuals who apply and qualify to attend this course as a Training of Trainers will be required to have attended a Bridging the Gap Training of Trainers within the last two years.
