Dear Superintendents and Charter School Leaders,

Thank you for your continued efforts to support San Diego County’s children during these uncertain times.

I want to make sure you saw the new guidance from the state regarding distance learning, school meals, and childcare and student supervision. Access it here.

I also want to share a template letter in English and Spanish you may use to communicate with your school community following Governor Newsom’s comments regarding the duration of school closures.

Obviously this is an unprecedented situation. While it is premature to make any final determination, we are strongly encouraging schools to think of this closure as likely to extend well beyond a couple of weeks and to focus on figuring out how to mitigate learning losses. We must continue to do whatever we can to support students – including and especially our most vulnerable children – until we get through this.

If you have questions about these materials, please contact Chief of Staff Music Watson at 858-292-3719 or via email. We will continue to share updates and resources as this situation unfolds.
