When we map out our destination, there are just a couple of certainties: where you start and where you want to arrive. Along the way, there may be detours, construction zones, pit stops and traffic jams, but as long as you know where you’re going, you can always adjust your path to reach that final destination, charting the roadmap for the future. As we work to set the policy agenda for the upcoming 2020-2021 policy year, there are a number of new and renewing policy issues that we are considering. Please take a moment and let us know through the following pages which municipal, provincial and federal policies should be a priority.
There are 27 policies for your consideration below. Please note that you can choose more than one option when answering.

The Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new rent subsidy, which chambers from across the country were asking for.

A state of public health emergency is declared November 24, 2020. New mandatory measures to stop the spike in cases are in effect.

As of October 26, 2020, eligible businesses currently operating through a personal bank account are able to apply for CEBA.
Deadline change: applicants now have until December 31, 2020, to apply for CEBA.

*COMING SOON CEBA support expanding from $40K to $60K. This expansion will be available to all eligible previous and new CEBA applicants. Updates will be HERE.

Have your say about Budget 2021 Alberta’s government is asking Albertans to help set the direction of the upcoming budget. The online survey is now live until Dec. 4, and telephone town halls will take place on Nov. 30, Dec. 2, and Dec. 3. More information is available at alberta.ca/budget-2021-consultation
The Regional Vitality Planning project’s main goal is to build a united Southeastern Alberta. To achieve this goal, a collaborative planning process will work to find common trends, identify collective advocacy opportunities, and align to the future needs of people, communities and business. The Regional SWOT conversation is open until December 11, 2020. Join the conversation.

With rising numbers of new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and ICU admissions, Albertans are being urged to avoid gatherings, wear masks in public, maintain physical distancing and wash their hands regularly. As part of a public education campaign, AHS now has a video series called Straight Talk, in which public health messages are being delivered by healthcare workers, who talk from the heart about what they’re seeing and experiencing at work and in their communities as the virus spreads across the province.

In accordance with enhanced public health measures outlined by the Government of Alberta, the City of Medicine Hat will be suspending all group activities currently taking place at the Family Leisure Centre, Kinplex Arena, Hockey Hounds Recreation Centre and Co-op Place, effective Friday, November 27, 2020. The FLC will remain open to the public and will offer the following public programs:

  • Kinsmen Aquatic Park – pre-registration is required – public swim, lane swim, self-led water fitness and one-on-one lessons
  • Cenovus Arena – pre-registration is required - public skating and adult skating only
  • Fieldhouse – pre-registration is required - driving range
  • South Country Co-op Fitness Area – open at 25% capacity
  • Gymnasium – pre-registration is required - self-led activities
  • Basketball – one person per hoop
  • Floor Hockey – one person per net

Once again COVID 19 puts pressure on the Alberta economy, small business in particular. On November 13, 2020, the Alberta government instituted targeted public health measures with additional enhanced public health measures announced on November 24th with the State of Public Health Emergency declared.
