Happy Birthday C.J.!
C .J. Gauger, an Iowa 4-H icon,
celebrated his 101st birthday on March 6, 2015.

C.J. said his "real education" came from particip ating in 4-H for several years following his graduation. Gauger received his degree from Iowa State University and taught high school agriculture for several years before serving his country briefly during World War II. After returning from the service, he resumed teaching for a short time before being recruited for a county Extension agent position. In 1959, he became the State 4-H Leader of Iowa, a position he held until he retired in 1979. C.J.'s leadership was recognized nationally as he chaired a national 4-H policy committee and shaped the 4-H emphasis on life skills development in all audiences, rural and urban.  C.J.'s belief in "the genius of 4-H" is so keen that he and his late wife, Dorothy, endowed
a fund with the Iowa 4-H Foundation to help provide resources for future generations of Iowa young people to participate in experiential learning and development through 4-H.

Happy Birthday C.J.! Thank you for all you've done for Iowa 4-H!

 2015 Gala: That's A Wrap!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated and/or came to the 2015 Iowa 4-H Foundation Gala! It was extremely successful and we couldn't have done it without you! Your support continues to better the Iowa 4-H program.
A special thank you to this year's Gala Event sponsors: ADM, Eldon C. Stutsman, Inc., John Deere, and
Summit Farms.

Over 200 attendees enjoyed an evening full of food, socializing, and of course, opportunities to bid on more than 110 silent and live auction items! The live and silent auctions raised $24,620 and $17,500 respectively. This year's Fund-A-Need portion of the auction raised more than $5,750 to support Iowa's youth delegation to National 4-H Congress! These funds will allow the Iowa 4-H Program to bring five more Iowa 4-H'ers on this national 4-H experience. At the end of the night, over $106,000 was raised to fund opportunities for Iowa's 4-H youth!

4-Hers played a role in helping us reach our fundraising total. There were 13 4-H projects in the silent auction that raised a total of $1,000. Fifty percent of the proceeds from 4-H'ers projects  went back to the club or county of their choice.

"We were thrilled with the success of this event," said Executive Director, Albert Grunenwald. "It was a great night to connect with people who care about the future of 4-H in Iowa. Funds raised from this event will provide unique opportunities and learning experiences for Iowa 4-H members."

Thank you again to all the sponsors, attendees, and volunteers for continuing to support Iowa 4-H!
 Beds for Heads
We need beds for our 4-Hers' heads at camp! We will be reopening Oak Lodge for the 2015 camping season and need to fill it with bunk beds. "We are excited to use Oak Lodge this year because that
means more campers!" said Albert Grunenwald. We need to purchase 14 bunk bed sets (which include ladders, safety rails, and mattresses) before camp starts in June. The bunk  bed sets are each $800, which means we need your help to raise $11,200 so that our 4-H'ers can have a great experience at camp.

Click here to donate. After choosing "general 4-H program support" under "My 4-H Program," and clicking submit, write "Beds for Heads" in the comment box. We appreciate your help, to make our Iowa 4-Hers more comfortable at camp.
 4-Her's for 4-H

The Iowa 4-H'ers For 4-H Campaign is upon us! The annual campaign is conducted by  members of the State 4-H Council Finance Committee. 4-H Clubs across the state are encouraged to donate $3.00 per 4-H member. John-Paul Chaisson-Cardenas has generously volunteered to get pied in the face if members reach their goal. We would all love to see this, so please help us! Funds raised support financial aid, State 4-H Conference, and other projects as voted upon by the State 4-H Council. We greatly appreciate your donations. The campaign runs from March 1 to June 1.

Your campaign contribution supports the State 4-H Youth Conference, facility and improvements for the Iowa 4-H Center, and Financial Aid for 4-H program fees and event registrations.

Iowa 4-H Foundation Welcomes New Administrative Specialist
The Iowa 4-H Foundation welcomes Kayla Hyett as the new Administrative Specialist. Kayla grew up on a small farm in Western Illinois. After graduating high school she went to Black Hawk Community College-East Campus in Galva, Illinois and received her Associates of Science degree. In May 2014, Kayla received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Iowa State University where she majored in Agricultural Business.

Kayla was a 4-H member since she was eight years old until she graduated from high school in 2010. She belonged to the Joy- Eliza Ag 4-H Club in Mercer County, Illinois where her grandparents and parents were the leaders of her club when she was growing up. When she was a member, she showed pigs and sheep at the county and state level. When asked about her favorite 4-H memory Kayla replied, "My favorite 4-H memory would have to be our annual Christmas caroling. Every winter my 4-H club would sing Christmas carols and bring cookies to the elderly people in our community."

Outside of work ,Kayla's hobbies include being around livestock and being outdoors. She also likes to go home to Illinois and visit her family whenever she can.

Kayla's first adventure with the Iowa 4-H Foundation was the Gala! She is happy that she got to be a part of this year's event and looks forward to taking a more active role in the 2016 Iowa 4-H Foundation Gala. Kayla's position is responsible for administrative support and the public relations/marketing functions of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Her duties include the production of the biannual newsletter and special event support. You can contact Kayla by email at kkhyett@iastate.edu.
