Except for those who qualify for discounted membership (see article above), Capital Bikeshare pricing will increase on August 1.
The new pricing structure increases annual membership from $95 to $120 a year, while the 30-day pass price will increase from $20 to $25, and the Day pass price will increase from $8 to $10.
Prices are changing because Capital Bikeshare has experienced unprecedented ridership, setting new monthly records from May to October 2024. This ridership growth also brings significant operational and management costs. The new prices are intended to ensure Capital Bikeshare remains an affordable transportation option for the community.

Key impacts include:
-
Temporary full closure of the Wayne Avenue & Fenton Street intersection to all vehicular traffic. View detour map here.

Eastbound East Wayne Avenue (from Manchester Road to Manchester Place Station) is temporarily closed, making it a one-way street westbound from Flower Avenue. View detour map here.
- Access to local apartments and pedestrian routes will remain open. Please follow posted signage and directions from on-site personnel.
- Some WMATA and Ride On bus routes may be affected. Check with your transit provider for detour updates.

Public transit across the U.S. has reached a major milestone, with ridership climbing back to 85% of pre-pandemic levels in early 2025, according to a new report from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Even with office occupancy still at just 54%, riders are returning to buses and trains in cities large and small.
Montgomery County is contributing to this national rebound through ongoing investments in transit options like free Ride On service, FLASH Bus Rapid Transit, and infrastructure improvements that prioritize accessibility, equity, and reliability.
As Montgomery County continues to expand and reimagine its transit network, these national trends affirm what we already know: Public transportation is a vital lifeline for our community.
