New Church Name

Dear Church Family,

The Board of Deacons is pleased to announce our new name: Myers Park Covenant Church. The Church Renaming Committee unanimously recommended to the Board of Deacons that it accept and ratify the vote of the Congregation. The Committee presented the summary of the vote totals, and the pertinent part of their report is included below. After discussion, the Board of Deacons unanimously approved our new name.

Summary of the voting process and results

A total of 301 votes was submitted (257 electronically and 44 by paper ballot). Each voter ranked the three proposed names as #1, #2, or #3. One ballot could not be counted due to an unverified duplicate entry, resulting in 300 eligible votes. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of our members selected Myers Park Covenant Church as their first choice. The totals are as follows:

203 votes for Myers Park Covenant Church
51 votes for The Point in Myers Park
46 votes for Grace Community Church in Myers Park

Voting Process:

Each ballot carried a total value of 5 points, for a maximum of 1,500 points across all ballots. Points were assigned as follows:

#1 choice = 3 points
#2 choice = 2 points
#3 choice = 0 points

Final Point Totals:

Myers Park Covenant Church — 733 points
Grace Community Church in Myers Park — 472 points
The Point Church in Myers Park — 295 points

With a 259‑point margin between Myers Park Covenant Church and Grace Community Church, the Church Renaming Committee recognized Myers Park Covenant Church as the clear and decisive winner.

Please note: A Trademark Search for our new name is being conducted. We did not want to incur any unnecessary expenses until a name was actually selected by the Congregation. We do not anticipate any problem; however, we will let you know of the results when informed by counsel.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the Church Renaming Committee for their thoughtful and dedicated work: Ray Owens, Dean Bowen, Ryan LaPrade, Cindy Clemens, and Suzette Buchan and special thanks to staff member Laura Geer for her excellent support during this process.

Many of us are grieving the loss of our founding name — a name that has shaped our identity and holds the stories of those who first gathered to form this community. That history remains a cherished part of who we are. As we move forward, we will continue to celebrate our past and honor the many individuals whose vision, faith, and commitment created and sustained this church. Their legacy is the foundation on which we now build the next chapter of our life together.

We have important work ahead in preparing to embrace our new name. Please mark Sunday, September 13, 2026 (Celebration Sunday) on your calendar — the day we will officially celebrate bridging our past to our future as Myers Park Covenant Church.

In the months leading up to September 13, you will begin to see updates across our campus and communications, including new signage, letterhead, a new website, and other materials that reflect our new identity. These changes will help us enter this next chapter with clarity, unity, and excitement.
