Cal State LA opens new Circuit Space facility
The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology held a grand opening for its Circuit Space on March 20. Located at B105 in the Engineering and Technology building, the space will serve as a student-centered makerspace for projects and workshops that involve augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics, and more. “It’s critical for students to be involved in hands-on projects and collaborative learning,” said Charles Liu, professor and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The space was recently converted from an underutilized electronics lab, with new, digitized equipment replacing the old lab’s bulkier, outdated apparatus.

AAPI Heritage Month celebration begins this month
Cal State LA will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month from the month of April through May, with the theme of “Woven in Resilience.” Just as a fabric woven tightly can stretch and bend without breaking, communities thrive and become stronger when they face adversity together. Join us in celebrating our collective strength, resilience, and unbreakable faith in the power of unity and community. Sports Journalism Summit to take place tomorrow, April 10
Cal State LA will present a Sports Journalism Summit on Thursday, April 10. It is designed for students and alumni interested in exploring the world of sports media. This summit brings together professional sports journalists from television, radio, print, and digital media to discuss the inner workings of the industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in panel discussions and join a special conversation with Los Angeles Lakers legends Michael Cooper and Metta World Peace. Admission is free. Due to limited space, pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

Cal State LA presents the Pérez-Silverman Symposium
The Pérez-Silverman Symposium: Promoting Urban Ecology will take place on Tuesday, April 15, and Wednesday, April 16. This is a two-day event dedicated to biodiversity, conservation, and ecological resilience in urban environments. Register online by 5 p.m. on April 11 to attend the symposium.

Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing hosts Cedars-Sinai blood drive
Students, faculty, staff, and community members can give blood on campus during the Cedars-Sinai’s Give from the Heart Blood Drive on Wednesday, April 16, and Thursday, April 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donors will receive a limited-edition T-shirt plus their choice of a gift card from Target or In-N-Out. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to volunteer and participate in a day of community service at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in the City of Industry. The Cal State LA Gives Back! event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Transportation is provided. Phi Kappa Phi’s Diamond Jubilee Exhibition on display at the University Library
The Cal State LA chapter of the international honor society of Phi Kappa Phi is celebrating its 60th anniversary on campus this year. Its Diamond Jubilee Exhibition, entitled “Continuity and Change,” was inaugurated on the chapter’s foundation day, Jan. 12, 2025, and is on display on the first-floor stairwell of the University Library until the end of June. Depicting the chapter’s history, work, and achievements, the exhibit was curated by Roger Lee Mendoza, chapter vice president and professor of management. Other special commemorative events for Phi Kappa Phi will take place during the year.
