Butte County 4-H
Cloverleaf Newsletter
March 2020
"I pledge ... My Head to clearer thinking, My Heart to greater loyalty, My Hands to larger service and My Health to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world."
Welcome to the New and Improved Cloverleaf!
Communication in 4-H is imperative, and as our community grows into the 21st century, we feel it right that our newsletter does too. We are now using Constant Contact for all of our Cloverleaves. This software will make your monthly news more engaging with things like polls, RSVP's, pictures, videos, and links to other websites. A major part of this decision is to reduce cost, so we will no longer send paper copies. We will use the email address in the "Family" profile from 4hOnline, but if other family members want to receive an Interactive PDF version, they can sign up by clicking the button in this section. And copies will continue to be posted on the website so you can print them out - If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at (530) 538-7201!

Butte County 4-H Program faces budget challenge!

In Butte County, 4-H is delivered through the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) by a Community Education Specialist (CES). The 4-H CES position is essential to ensuring the success of the 4-H program.
Budget shortfalls have reduced the amount of resources available to UCCE to support its 4-H CESs. Since 2018, the Butte County 4-H CES, which is a 75%-time position, has been supported partly by the University (50%) and partly by the Butte County 4-H Council (25%). Starting July of 2020, the funding model of the 4-H CES will change statewide, and that change will affect the level of support available for the Butte County 4-H CES.
In the new CES funding model, part of the fees paid by 4-H members will be used to fund the CES position, with some extra support by the University. Given the size of the program in Butte County and current fees, and the University’s contribution, the new model will only cover 38% of the position.
To continue the level of program management needed to make the Butte County 4-H program successful, UCCE will need an extra $24,000/year. UCCE Butte County is currently working to find the funding needed for the year 2020-2021; however, we will need to work together to find the funding needed for subsequent years.

We need to be self-sustainable through local support because we can’t rely on federal or state government support. UCCE Butte County will work together with the Butte County 4-H Council and the Butte County community to seek ways to address this need.

This information is provided by Butte County Cooperative Extension Director, Luis Espino.
Important Correction
Thank You in word collage
In our last Cloverleaf, it wasstated that Bangor 4-H Club fixed the Tri-Tip dinner at Fun Night. Bangor and Marjoie Daley ran the prize booth, which deserves it's own praise, but it was actually West Gridley 4-H, with major help from Mike and Deanna Kossow, who prepared the food. Thank you to all parties for the time and energy put in to making Fun Night a huge success!
Fun Night Missing Items
We have a few items that were picked up at the end of Fun Night, and some of them aren't cheap. Let us know if you think you left anything! You can call Barbara with a description of your lost item at (530) 538-7201.

Bowl-a-Thon Basket Ask
colorful_gifts.jpg
Farm, Home & 4-H Support Group Bowl-a-thon fundraiser is Saturday March 14th, 2020, 6pm at Orchard Lanes in Chico. We are in need of items for the Silent Auction! This fundraiser of the Farm, Home & 4-H Support Group, which is a fundraising group that supports the Butte County Cooperative Extension Office, including the 4-H Office.

This is an annual event and the funds earned not only help the Cooperative Extension Office but specifically the 4-H Office by paying for our new 4-H volunteers to be reimbursed when they get their fingerprinting done. While this is not a 4-H event, the funds from the silent auction will directly benefit the Butte County 4-H Youth Development Program.

I am asking that 4-H clubs donate gift baskets for the silent auction. If you are able to do so please contact Theresa Schneider 530.518.9914 or tmbschneider@msn.com.

Thank you for your help, Hope to see you there!
Facebook Page and Group
4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults, in a hands-on environment. With that mission statement in mind, we want to make sure that all 4-H Families are able to receive news and information, regardless of any situation. So we have created a Butte County 4-H Facebook Page where we will post pictures and information about our events. We have also created a Butte County 4-H Facebook Group Page which will be a place for Members and Volunteers to ask questions about the program, make suggestions, and give voice to our program's needs. We hope you will request membership to both pages and assist in our 4-H Program's growth!
