Solomon Grayzel (1896–1980) is the namesake of the Grayzel Digital Platform. As a scholar, rabbi, and editor, he helped shaped Jewish life in Philadelphia and beyond. He taught at Gratz College, led the Jewish Publication Society, and pioneered research on Church-Jewish relations, notably through Vatican archival work.
This partnership brings together the strengths of both Gratz College and JTS:
- JTS, as the home of the original Grayzel collection, will continue to preserve the physical materials and offer scholarly expertise.
-
Gratz College will make high-quality digital versions and descriptive information available to the public on the Grayzel Digital Platform, supporting research, learning, and engagement around Solomon Grayzel’s legacy.
This addition to the Grayzel Platform represents a significant milestone, representative of Gratz's intention to continuously increase access to the breadth and depth of Jewish wisdom to all.
We look forward to sharing updates as the digitization process unfolds and to welcoming scholars, students, and community members to explore this important collection online. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to cultural heritage and supporting meaningful scholarship.
Stay tuned; there's much more to come!
