Dear Members of PCA:
Colleges and universities are preparing for the 2020-21 academic year, and plans are changing. Schedules are in flux, with some schools opening earlier and others later than originally announced. Instruction is taking many forms--face-to-face, online, hybrid--as COVID-19 introduces uncertainty into our lives. PCA is grappling with these issues as well. We deeply regret cancelling our 2020 conference in Philadelphia and want nothing more than to meet face-to-face in Boston in 2021 for PCA's 50th anniversary celebration.
Given this, the PCA Governing Board jumped at the chance to reschedule the conference when the Boston Marriott Copley Place, due to a cancellation, offered us a later date at no extra charge; thus, we voted to delay the conference from March 31-April 3 to June 2-5, 2021. This adjusted time frame allows a longer period for the production and distribution of a vaccine, even better testing, and it assures warmer weather. It also means we will not conflict with Easter and Passover, allowing our members to spend the holidays with their families. We did not make this decision lightly, as we realize that many graduations take place in early June and that some of you may have already made travel plans. However, we feel it is in the best interests of our association and our members to opt for the later dates and hope you agree. Our website will open soon; the submission period for proposals begins on August 12. The June date gives us a greater chance of having a face-to-face conference.
I wish you well at the beginning of a new school year and look forward to seeing you in Boston in springtime.
All the best,
Kathy Merlock Jackson
