New Curriculum Now Available:

“Cognitive Remediation to Promote Recovery”

We’re pleased to announce our newest curriculum which is now available in CPI’s learning management system:

Cognitive Remediation to Promote Recovery

Did you know that:

  • Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to adapt to change. This can occur at any age.
  • Cognitive remediation is an evidence-based therapy, which means that its use is supported by many years of research.
  • It employs training activities which are designed to help people improve their cognitive skills and their daily functioning.
  • With training, practitioners can learn how to provide cognitive remediation services.

This curriculum consists of two modules:

  • Module 1 (Cognitive Remediation Treatment Components) covers structuring and conducting cognitive remediation sessions, including the referral and intake process. It includes four chapters focusing on cognitive exercises, discussion groups, starting sessions, and referrals. Learning objectives are:
  • Identify two (2) major activities that happen in a cognitive remediation (CR) session.
  • Describe the core features of a cognitive exercise plan and how to tailor a plan to meet individuals’ needs.
  • Describe how to run a group discussion to promote better use of cognition in everyday life.
  • Describe how to begin and run a CR session.
  • Describe who is appropriate to enroll in CR.

  • Module 2 (The Cognitive Remediation Clinician) focuses on the clinician's role during cognitive remediation sessions. It includes four chapters focusing on client motivation, guiding computer-based exercises, personalizing treatment, and evaluating treatment effectiveness. Learning objectives are:
  • Identify how to use the MUSIC model to promote motivation to learn.
  • Identify four (4) specific therapeutic techniques to promote better performance on cognitive tasks.
  • Describe (4) ways to provide individualized support during the CR session.
  • Identify three (3) ways to optimize program performance.
