News just for you
Turning the calendar to 2023

Another year has hurtled by, and we enter the holidays busy and sometimes frantic - at home and at work. In some quiet moments before year's end, set some expectations for yourself and the new year by looking for the "secret sauce."

It's people. "When you’re in the people business, you soon realize you have only one job: satisfaction," writes Mark Murphy, CEO of a financial planning company, in an article for Dental Economics. "In other words, you must find satisfaction in your work, and in doing so, your patients will be satisfied with your service. Ultimately, this satisfaction creates a continuous loop of prosperity."

"Satisfaction—that’s the secret sauce."
Murphy suggests a simple but powerful exercise: draw a large "T" on a piece of paper. On the left, list your "wants" -- all your desires you can think of. In the right column, your "don't wants" -- all the things you dislike about your current situation. Over time, you can work toward fulfilling more of your wants and taking steps to eliminate what drags you down. The solution is in "thinking forward," Murphy writes.

He identifies relationships as a key driver of the most critical decisions you will make. "I encourage my married clients to invest as much energy and resources in their marriage as they do in their business. That’s balance, and it’s essential. I don’t care how successful your practice is, if your marriage and/or family life is failing, your business will eventually suffer right along with it."

Read Murphy's entire article, which also touches on the importance of financial and investment planning.
