On behalf of the Law Society of Alberta, I am pleased to announce that Cori Ghitter (pictured right) has accepted the role of Deputy Executive Director of the Law Society of Alberta effective January 1, 2019.
Ms. Ghitter joined the Law Society in 2014 as the Director of Professionalism & Access (now called Professionalism & Policy). She is the Executive Leadership Team member responsible for overseeing: Early Intervention, Practice Management, Policy & Ethics, Equity Diversity and Inclusion as well as the Law Society’s response to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
After being called to the Bar in 1996, Ms. Ghitter practiced law as a civil litigator and then worked as Legal Counsel to the Court of Appeal for several years. Prior to joining the Law Society of Alberta, she was the Director of Recruitment and Professional Development in the Calgary office of Dentons LLP where she was responsible for all aspects of student, associate and income partner career development including hiring, training, evaluation, coaching and compensation. During her time at Dentons, Ms. Ghitter was active in developing pro bono and diversity initiatives for the firm, including an Internationally Trained Lawyers Program.
Ms. Ghitter was born and raised in Calgary. She received her LLB in 1994 from the University of Calgary and her LLM in 2000 from the University of British Columbia.
Ms. Ghitter has taught several courses at the University of Calgary Law and Society department and currently serves as a Director of the Legal Education Society of Alberta, CPLED and as Co-Chair of the Alberta Law Libraries Board. She is a Director of Vibrant Communities Calgary and previously served as a member of the Stewardship Group of the Calgary Poverty Reduction Initiative and as Director on the boards of the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations and the YWCA of Calgary.
