The resulting pattern was a "Point-To-Point", in the Gammill terms, or "Autofit" in Innova's terms.
That means that one square design goes into a each of the quilt's blocks. Given that no two 1/4" seams are the same, you have a problem with the variable sized block and the exact-sized design matching up, especially when there are so many blocks together. The variations in the blocks add up to a significant amount so that at the end of the quilt, the block and the design do not match up as they should.
The "Autofit" technique is simple. Point to the starting location on each quilt block, all the way along the quilt. The Mach 3 will adjust the pattern to fit the quilt's blocks. That is important because even with the most advanced quilters, there is some variability in the blocks.
The result, as always, was another happy quilter!
