CLASSICS EAGLES DIRECTOR MESSAGE - "SPEED"
Speed is the result of time spent improving your control, confidence, and technique with the ball. Speed comes from a better understanding of the game. Speed is the end of the equation of many hours developing the player. Speed does not come first.

A player cannot just "play faster" as they are often told.
"BAD PASS - WHO CARES"
by Tony Earp, CE DIRECTOR
A common start to a lot of training sessions is a small group passing exercise between two or three players. Coaches will ask the players to pass and move as a group to begin getting ready to play. Often the expectation is for the players to work on passing accuracy, controlling touch when receiving the ball, and spacing/movement in relation to each other (among other things). Over the years of working with players of different age groups, this part of a training session can be very frustrating to watch when soccer balls are flying all over the field to no intended target. The players are technically good enough to play the ball from point “A” to “B” with no pressure, but why do they seem to be having so much trouble? The sad truth is they just do not care enough. Sun Safe Soccer

Protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays is important, not only for the prevention of sunburn now, but to decrease your chances of developing skin cancer in the future.

The American Society of Dermatologic Surgery has created the Sun Safe Soccer program, which provides free downloadable brochures for coaches, families, and athletes with tips for optimal sun protection.  Click here  for an overview of the program and to access these resources!

Sun Safe Soccer offers an array of information about protecting the skin, that can be used both on the field and in your daily life. A few of the program's suggestions include:

  • Protecting your skin before taking the field
  • Applying sunscreen before putting on shin guards and other protective gear
  • Using a sunscreen with SPF 30 or above during athletic participation
  • When not in play, covering up with sun protective clothing or headwear
  • During breaks or after participation, getting out of the sun and cooling off under a canopy or tent

We hope you find this information helpful during these sunny months, as we venture outside more frequently and slowly start getting back to soccer!
