Thanks for visiting IDOT at the Illinois State Fair!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our tent during the 2023 Illinois State Fair! We had a blast talking with fairgoers about projects happening throughout the state, sharing information on job openings, playing interactive games and learning about our pollinator preservation practices. We even filled up TWO snowplows with your signatures.

Region 3, District 5: Secretary Osman joined U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and elected officials for the Federal Transit Administration’s emergency relief funding press conferences in central Illinois on July 31.

Buttigieg announced a $22,700 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant awarded for the Curtis Road grade separation project in Savoy. The project includes two miles of improvements on Curtis Road from Windsor Road to Old Church Road by relocating the railroad track and embankment. Additionally, the project will reconstruct a mile of Curtis Road with two additional vehicular lanes, new on-street bicycle lanes, modernized traffic signals with pedestrian countdown signals, drainage improvements and enhanced transit stops.

Region 5, District 8: Southwestern Illinois College honored 14 recent graduates from its summer Engineering Technician training program with a ceremony at the East St. Louis Community College Center on July 26. The graduation ceremony was an opportunity to recognize the 10 weeks of training required to graduate.

For 10 consecutive weekends, the trainees completed highway construction activities, which included CADD training and on-the-job work scenarios with district staff at the Illinois Department of Transportation in Collinsville. These new skills will put graduates in a much better position to secure jobs in the construction industry or start their own ventures.
