Reading Roadmap: Navigating Dyslexia and Literacy Challenges Training *

Ready to transform your reading instruction? Join up for a day of hands-on learning designed to equip educators with cutting-edge literacy tools and strategies. Dive deep into the Science of Reading and walk away with proven, evidence-based techniques to boost reading success for all students -- including those with dyslexia. The Children's Trust's Releases School-Based Health RFP

The Children’s Trust, in collaboration with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (DOH - Miami-Dade), will continue to fund a comprehensive school-based health initiative that increases access to health and wellness services for children and families. The approach involves nursing and mental health professional services and community referrals that promote a healthy school environment intended to identify, prevent and/or remedy student health problems. In addition, telehealth services will be integrated to provide remote access to medical consultations and mental health support, ensuring that students receive care regardless of location.


This is a competitive request for proposals (RFP) solicitation open to current school health providers and other community health providers qualified to perform school-based health services.

SEL PQA Best Practices Community of Practice Orientation: Newcomers Welcome! *

Project RISE is grateful to have worked with several Youth Development providers in 2024 to deepen its community's understanding of the best practices encouraged by the Social Emotional Learning Program Quality Assessment (SEL PQA). Its sessions have been informative and engaging, and as they prepare to continue this community of practice in 2025, they would like to share and familiarize new participants with the tools and resources developed thus far.


Please join them for an orientation session on December 11 at 11 a.m. All you need to bring is your curiosity and enthusiasm for working with youth. This week, we are featuring Parent to Parent of Miami, a Trust-funded provider since 2004 that supports activities to increase family functioning and parenting practices to improve child health, school outcomes, and care systems for children and youth with disabilities and special needs. Parent to Parent of Miami is a community parent resource center offering specialized information, peer support, coaching, and family empowerment. Walmart Spark Good Local Grants Available

Each year, Walmart U.S. stores, Sam’s Clubs and Distribution Centers award local cash grants ranging from $250 to $5000. These local grants are designed to address the unique needs of the communities where they operate. Before applying for a Spark Good Local Grant, organizations must have a Spark Good account on Walmart.com/nonprofits and be verified by Walmart’s third-party verification partner, Deed. To check if your organization has completed verification, log into your Spark Good account on Walmart.com/nonprofits, where you will see your organization status. 


Spark Good Local Grants are awarded through an open application process to eligible organizations operating locally and directly benefiting the service area of the facility from when they are requesting funding. Grant amounts range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $5,000. The deadline for the current grant application window is Dec. 31.

Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries 2024 Grants Now Open

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries provides funds to our Nation’s neediest schools so that they can extend, update, and diversify the book and print collections in their libraries with the goal of encouraging students to develop a love of reading and learning. A certified librarian or other paid professional must be assigned as responsible for the collection, care, and use of the materials housed in the school library. Public school applicants must be Title 1 eligible. Neighborhood schools, charter schools, magnet schools, etc. are all welcome to apply if Title 1 eligible. Private and parochial schools are also welcome to apply if at least 50% of their student population qualify for financial aid. Your school must have a library or designated space on campus where books are accessible to all students to check out. Principal must digitally sign principal agreement in the application. All financial documentation must be completed for your application to be complete – this includes the school/district W-9 and a voided blank check OR a bank letter.


Per the grant guidelines of the Laura Bush Foundation, the grant is to be used to purchase school library books, e-books, and magazine requests as outlined in your grant application. Use of the funds for shelving or furniture of any kind, equipment (i.e.: computers, electronic readers, Kindles, etc.), staffing, software, videos, guides, tests or exams, classroom book sets, or similar items, is prohibited. Our Site Directors manage and oversee program and site operations for our school-year and summer programs at one of Breakthrough Miami’s seven host school sites, leading the recruitment, management, and development of Scholars, Volunteers, and Teaching Fellows. Site Directors ensure program fidelity, spirit, and culture, advancing Breakthrough Miami’s mission and goals. Advancing the model of an embedded service-learning partnership, Directors build supportive relationships with students, parents, schools, the community, and other stakeholders to build a rigorous, fun, and supportive learning environment for Scholars, Volunteers, and Teaching Fellows to develop as life-long learners, leaders, and changemakers.


Assistant Site Director: Responsible for efficiently and effectively delivering programs and services directly affecting Breakthrough Miami Scholars and families. An ASD oversees campus or site logistics, unpaid student volunteers, and some stipended positions, such as Teaching Fellows. As an ambassador of the program, the ASD builds supportive relationships with students, parents, schools, the community, and other stakeholders to ensure the academic and socio-enrichment success of all Breakthrough Scholars. 


Director of High School Programs: Responsible for planning and implementing programming for Breakthrough Miami’s high school students to ensure they are prepared for academic success in high school and successfully transition to college. The Director will work closely with students and families as they navigate the high school years and hold students to high academic and community standards. During the school year, the Director will plan Saturday programming, monitor academic progress, set goals for inside and outside the classroom, and navigate school and other community resources to ensure students stay on track for college. 


Summer Instructional Coaches: Summer Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer and engage fully in the BTM community. ICs dictate the level of academic rigor during Breakthrough Miami’s summer program through their interactions with Teaching Fellows. They effectively communicate content specifics to Teaching Fellows, guide Fellows through effective planning and execution, and hold both Fellows and students to the highest standards. ICs are expected to lead department meetings, visit Fellows’ classes at least twice a week, evaluate lesson plans and curriculum overviews, and meet individually with Fellows regarding their on-going work. Since ICs are the only professional teachers on-site, they are accountable for the quality of instruction students receive, and are responsible for supporting BTM Teaching Fellows through their teaching experiences. This position will begin on June 7, 2025 and will end on August 1, 2025.

 

Summer Site Coordinators: Summer Site Coordinators (SSCs) are critical members of the summer administrative team and help ensure the smooth and safe operations of the Summer Institute at their assigned site. SSCs train, coordinate and oversee volunteers; supervise the summer food service program for Scholars and staff; order and keep an inventory of program supplies; coordinate general office administration; manage the Scholar drop off and pick up process; and assist with the execution of special events. This position will begin on June 7, 2025 and will end on August 1, 2025.

 

Summer Assistant Site Directors: Summer Assistant Site Directors (SASDs) work collaboratively with full-time directors at their assigned site to ensure a successful Summer Institute; and work closely with Scholars and their families, as well as Teaching Fellows to ensure their needs are met. SASDs assist with the coordination and management of student attendance and reporting; management of student information in the Breakthrough Miami student database; student discipline and conduct; Teaching Fellow training and professional development; implementation of the Teaching Assistant program; preparation of major events, including Visitors Day, Family Night, and other events as scheduled; and program evaluations during the final ten days of programming. This position will begin on June 7, 2025 and will end on August 1, 2025.

Family Support Coordinator
