New England Companies to Participate in USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program  On May 8 th , USDA announced the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) awardees. Four approved contractors who serve New England will provide dairy-focused food boxes (HP Hood, The Abbey Group, Farm Fresh Rhode Island and Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success in Manchester, NH). These contractors will distribute food boxes to families in need through local non-profit organizations or schools in our region between May 15th and June 30th. Food boxes distributed by Farm Fresh Rhode Island will include dairy and other food items while the other three contractors will distribute dairy-only boxes. Some of these may include yogurt and cheese; others will contain fluid milk exclusively.

Dairy in a Plant-Based Diet On April 28 we hosted the first of a webinar series for health professionals, Plant-Based Diets for Children: Potential Promises and Pitfalls. Registration sign ups exceeded goals with 589 registrants of which 428 attended live (72% attendance rate which exceeds standards). Jill Castle, MS, RDN, a nationally recognized child nutrition expert, presented the science which positioned the value of dairy in a plant-based diet for children.  The recording is on the continuing education page of our website, where we will continue to drive health professionals looking for continuing education credits.

May 16: Virtual Vermont Breakfast on the Farm We've been a proud partner of Vermont Breakfast on the Farm since it began in 2015. Due to COVID-19, this year's event will be held virtually on May 16 at 9:30am at Newmont Farm. Participants will join Will and Brooke Gladstone to learn about life on a dairy farm and can participate in a live Q+A.
