News from co-op - Fall 2022

New Faces, New Roles

What a summer! SSCCP has welcomed four new Children's Teachers and six new Parent Educators to our program.

We will be spotlighting our wonderful new staff members on our social media channels over the next few months, so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to meet these wonderful humans.

Our first spotlight is Teacher Helen, our new parent educator for the Infants class.

Originally from Austin, TX, Teacher Helen moved to Seattle in 2016 after having earned a Masters degree in Public Health and working in the field in Atlanta. Helen has always had a love for biology, life sciences and child development. She is new to SSCCP as a Parent Educator and is currently navigating parenthood and cooperative preschool with a 3 year old and 1 year old. She absolutely loves birth to three, that magical time when children start to discover the world, then themselves, a time when there is so much change for the whole family. Being someone who moved to Seattle without any family nearby, Helen especially values the support and community gained through co-op preschool. When she isn't in class or helping her students, she is most likely sitting down with her first glass of water for the day after having just picked up every last toy in the living room.

Welcome Teacher Helen!

Co-op 101 (virtual event)

Your child plays and has fun at preschool each day, but what are they truly learning? You come to school and head to your work station, but what can you be doing to support your child and others in the classroom? In this class, you will learn about the specific ways your child is building foundational math, literacy, and social-emotional skills through play. You will hear more about your role as assistant teacher and how you can enhance the learning for children who visit your area. Finally, we will answer your questions about how to handle some of the most common challenging situations that come up during preschool. This class is for co-op newbies and veterans alike. It is also appropriate for parenting partners, nannies, grandparents, or other caregivers who want to understand “Co-op language”.  RSVP with Teacher Dawn here.
