NEED HELP WITH YOUR

FAMILY SUPPORT CASE?

The Wayne County Friend of the Court has launched a new project in an effort to collect outstanding balances on family support cases.

Within the next 30 days, Wayne FOC will issue postcard notices to parties with past due support. These notices will provide several methods for making payments while instructing them to begin making regular payments immediately

Wayne FOC understands that many individuals are having difficulty finding employment and may not be able to pay their full monthly support obligation.  If they are in this situation, they are encouraged to make regular payments in any amount and contact Wayne FOC to obtain information on how to reduce current monthly support.  There are several options available to reduce payments or eliminate arrearages, but active participation on behalf of the party is required to take advantage of these options.  Failure to make regular payments towards support cases will result in a contempt of court hearing for non-payment where the party may face incarceration, license suspension, and other sanctions.

Why Is Jury Service Important?

The United States Constitution guarantees all people, regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, or economic status, the right to trial by an impartial jury. Justice ultimately depends to a large measure upon the quality of the jurors who serve in our courts.

The Michigan Legal Help Self-Help Center of Wayne County helps residents of Detroit and Wayne County who are unable to afford an attorney.  The Self-Help Center is now located in Smart Detroit, Suite 1300 of the Penobscot Building, at 645 Griswold in Detroit. The new location is more convenient for many individuals with family law matters involving children because it is in the same building as the Friend of the Court. The Center is staffed by navigators who can help visitors use the Michigan Legal Help website (www.MichiganLegalHelp.org) to learn how to represent themselves in simple civil legal matters. The Self-Help Center is now open Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for our Wayne County Child Support Help Program at the main Detroit Public Library located at 5201 Woodward.  Don't miss out on your chance to meet one-on-one with an attorney about your child support case. We will also provide assistance with child support motions.
