Federal Tax Credit for Scholarships

Can Help GEO Academies Students Excel

October 1, 2026

Greetings!

GEO Academies strive to do more than tradition expects. For years, we've produced students in Indiana and Louisiana who have earned college degrees and career certifications before graduating from our high schools, too. Four students earned full bachelor's degrees while in our high schools and 139 others who earned associate degrees with us (listed above). These achievements demonstrate our students beat the odds every day and every year.

But, these achievements come at a cost. Granted, the cost is worth it, but the dollars we spend on students earning real college and career credits on a college campus or at a training center, cost our schools dollars we could be spending on remediating others to get them prepared to start earning their degrees and certifications. Many of our students need a terrific amount of remediation.

Nonetheless, we regularly earmark dollars in every budget of ours to support college and career costs including full college tuition, transportation, textbooks, etc. What started out as a $30,000 expense back in 2011 has now ballooned to more than $1.2 million this year. That's good news and bad news.

The good news is that this says more and more of our students want to do more than tradition expects and that we are doing our job to get them ready to do more. The bad news is that it is getting really expensive.

Fortunately, the federal government recently approved the "Federal Tax Credit for Scholarships" program that provides every taxpayer in America a $1700 dollar-for- dollar tax credit ($3400 for married couples) if they make a donation to a qualified scholarship granting organization (SGO).

GEO will be participating in this program and we will be encouraging all our staff members and our friends and supporters to consider making a donation to a qualified scholarship granting organization to support our students.

I plan to donate, too. Every dollar you donate to the SGO will be fully qualified for a tax credit off your federal income taxes, too.

Reduce your federal tax liability dollar for dollar and know that your contribution will be going to support specific students earning college and career credentials while attending a GEO Academy.

Your dollar-for-dollar tax credit contribution won't just support a "scholarship" program, it will be combined and matched with GEO's efforts to fully support a student in completing college and career training. We provide full staff support to our students while they take their college and career courses.

To be clear, I'm not asking for your contribution today. The tax credit doesn't go into effect until January 1st, 2027. However, I am asking if you are interested in learning more about the program. If so, please respond to this email and let me know.

Also, if you have a business and would like to inform your employees about this opportunity, please let me know. We are planning to set up automatic payroll deduction opportunities, too. Your company and your employees can participate.

I've been telling people for years that students want to do more than tradition expects and our students prove that every day. Now, we have a chance to add some jet fuel to the process--support from America's taxpayers--and unleash their full potential with your support.

I hope you give this some strong consideration and that I hear from you. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Kevin Teasley
