Our volunteers are busy organizing the Golden Gala this year and we are looking forward to another wonderful evening sharing our successes and looking toward the future. Visit our
Gala web page
for a preview of the evening and to purchase your tickets and sponsorships.
We are also excited to bring you new sponsorship opportunities for both businesses and individuals with levels that offer you a variety of benefits, including advertising and/or tickets to the gala and our 19th Annual Golden on the Green charity golf tournament. Visit our Sponsorship page for all the details.
|
This year, our fundraising goal for the year is $100,000, and with your help, we can reach or possibly even exceed that target. We are so appreciative of your support and generosity; it is why “Together We Are Golden”.
|
If you aren't able to attend the gala but still want to help, here are a couple ways you can contribute to our gala Silent Auction:
1) NRGRR has an
Amazon Wish List
for the gala auction. For a modest price you can purchase/donate appropriate items.
- You may opt to send the purchase to “confidential wish list address” so the shipment will come directly to NRGRR/Karen
- Don’t forget to use your Amazon Smile account so NRGRR will also get a percentage of your purchase!
2) Purchase a gift card from one of your favorite stores or restaurants. Always very popular items at the Gala!
If you make a purchase, please email Karen McKenzie at
[email protected]
so that you will be properly acknowledged and she will know to expect it.

FOSTERS NEEDED...the “life-blood” of most rescues are their fosters. You simply CANNOT save lives without fosters. After being pulled from a shelter, or an owner surrenders their family pet, the dog needs a place to land for medical care (if needed), training perhaps, and a safe environment where they can build confidence and prepare to meet their forever family.
For the next couple of months, the Rescue Ranger will be spotlighting NRGRR fosters as they share with you what motivates them to foster. If you are sitting on the fence or never even considered fostering, we hope you will be moved by some of the stories and decide to open your home to an NRGRR dog. Fostering saves lives, and you can be part of our rewarding mission to Rescue.Rehab.Adopt.

Ellen Yu
Ellen started fostering for NRGRR in July 2012 when she was looking for a companion dog for her girl Daisy. She decided to foster immediately so she could “screen” for Daisy’s perfect companion. Ellen has continued fostering and advocating for NRGRR dogs over the years despite a busy work schedule and her extra-curricular activities including training for triathletic events.
One of the things that motivates Ellen to keep fostering is the joy she experiences from saving lives, the transformations she witnesses, and the opportunity to share in the joyful unions of her fosters and the families who adopt them. For Ellen, finding time to foster is simply a matter of choice and good time management. Even with three dogs of her own, Ellen keeps a spot open for the next pup who needs her, stating that she is never too busy to save another life!
Ellen has lost count of the number of dogs and puppies she has fostered over the years; it’s a lot, we can vouch for that! She has fostered a mix of dogs with a variety of issues and has found joy helping each and every one of them on their journey to finding their forever home. Ellen admits to having a soft spot for the puppies and “puppy breathe.”
|
|
|
The 3 things Ellen likes best about fostering are:
1. Saving lives.
2. How taking a broken dog and helping change its future has helped her understand compassion; which she states has made her a better person, both personally and at work.
3. The caring, wonderful friends she has made along the way.
|
|
What advice would Ellen give to someone considering fostering:
Be prepared to have your heart broken, but at the same time, know that the dog you fostered and fell in love with may not have continued to exist without you!
NRGRR pays all medical expenses, provides medication, training, and support; you provide a welcoming home and a safe, loving environment for our dogs until it’s time for them to find their forever family. If you are interested in fostering, please click here to fill out our foster application and you will be connected with our foster coordinator; or if you have questions about what it takes to become a foster for NRGRR, please reach out to Mimi at
[email protected]
. Foster training is held monthly at AniMall on the same Saturday’s as our Meet and Greets.
Thank you Ellen Yu for all you have done to help save lives and support the mission of NRGRR. YOU make a difference, one dog at a time – one foster at a time!

|
The journey to becoming an NRGRR dog typically begins with a “freedom ride” with one of our transporters. The majority of the dogs that come into our program come from shelters across the Triangle and much of Eastern NC. When called upon, our transportation team springs into action to pull these dogs as quickly as possible, as most shelters are overcrowded and the window for rescue is limited. Because of this, requests for transport usually come with very short notice. Generally dogs need to be pulled within a day or two but sometimes that same day! The dogs are then taken to one of our vet partners in Raleigh and placed into a foster home as soon as possible.
|
|
If you are interested in assisting with our transportation team, there are several ways you can help. 1) Local transports - The request for transportation can be local to the Raleigh area; either pulling a dog from an area shelter and bringing them to one of our vet partners, or occasionally transporting a dog between resources such as from the vets to a trainer. 2) Regional transports - Some dogs are pulled from shelters several hours away and the trip is broken up into two legs, with a volunteer outside of the Triangle meeting another volunteer half way.
|
|
As a transportation volunteer, you will be provided with a list of helpful tips and advice about safely transporting dogs, whether local or longer distances. We will let you know what to expect (such as a dirty dog), what to bring (such as treats, slip leads to avoid a dog slipping out of their collar, etc.), and much more. One of the most rewarding feelings with transporting is the transformation you see in the dogs demeanor when they are free from shelter and realize they are now safe.
|
|
To volunteer as a transporter, please complete the form at the bottom of our
Volunteer web page
and our coordinator, Mary Anne, will reach out to you with additional information. All transporters are required to sign a liability waiver. If you have questions, please direct the email to
[email protected]

Oscar is a darling goofball of a dog. Oscar came into program a medical mess in mid-2018 - this poor dog had major hair loss and black elephant skin, entropion, heart worm, and more. He seems to have come from a hoarding situation per the shelter. Oscar healed and behaved beautifully in his foster home. Oscar has so many wonderful qualities - he is a lover and if you meet him at one of our events he'll charm your socks off!
|
|
|
He's easy with other dogs, but really loves people. And...when it comes to adoption and going into a new home, Oscar can get stressed. So we're looking for the right person with a calm environment and no cats who can welcome Oscar slowly and in a more structured way so he can be the total love bug he is! Sometimes dogs take a little special handling, we're here to show you how if you want an adorable and easy dog. To see just how easy going, check out
