Our Mission

"To provide effective and rewarding ways for donors to fulfill their philanthropic objectives."

Our Vision

"To be recognized as a trusted philanthropic leader in the communities we serve through the delivery of the highest quality donor services, customized and unique grant and scholarship programs, and bold initiatives to address community needs."

New Funds, New Board Member, New Staff

It's hard to believe that September is here and kids are back in school. It seems like just last weekend we were celebrating Memorial Day. Indeed, this summer has come and (almost) gone very quickly. However, while the  days seem to fly by faster than the OnLite Aurora's fiber optic network, we have most certainly taken the  opportunity to enjoy everything that has gone on at the Community Foundation this summer.

In April, the Community Foundation Board of Directors approved the opening of a new office in Geneva. By opening this new office, we are dedicating additional resources to the Tri-Cities so to better serve the northern  portion of our service area. We are committed to raising philanthropic awareness, and collaborating like-minded
donors, which will result in increased grantmaking throughout the Tri-Cities. A number of new funds created this  year have come from the Tri-Cities, and I believe this is directly correlated to our increased presence in that portion  of our service area.

Opening the Geneva office required us to increase our staff so that we could efficiently provide increased services. As you read through this newsletter you will see that we are very excited about the addition of Sarah Herring to  our staff.

Additionally, we are thrilled to have the Hon. F. Keith Brown (ret.) joining our Board of Directors. All who know Keith will agree that we are lucky to have his expertise and support as a Board member.

Truly there is a lot to be excited about at the Community Foundation. We must not forget, however, that none of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors and volunteers, and the tireless work of our  local nonprofit organizations. We thank you for your dedication to make our communities a better place to live  and work.

Family of St. Charles to honor the life and legacy of their beloved daughter and sister, Scout Cantrell (2004-2014). This fund has been established to provide charitable grants and financial support to organizations that carry on the legacy of Scout Cantrell, who passed away on October 29th, 2014 due to complications from an asthma attack.  "We are very excited, and humbled, to administer these two new funds," said Foundation Executive Vice President, Jeff Hartman. "These funds honor the lives and work of two individuals who have given of themselves so to make our communities better places to live."

New Board Member
Foundation Welcomes Keith Brown to the Board
Keith Brown
The Community Foundation is proud to announce its newest board member, Honorable Keith Brown (Ret.).  Brown's career in law spans over 30 years, and he is the former Chief Judge of Kane County. Judge Brown's experience includes cases in personal injury, worker's compensation, and other civil matters.

The Foundation is honored to have Judge Brown join its Board of Directors. Keith Brown led an impressive legal career and he is an outstanding member of our community.

"Keith Brown is a great addition to our Board," said Mark Truemper, Community Foundation Chairman.  "He is well known and highly respected in our communities.  With the opening of our Geneva office, and a concentrated effort to expand our presence in the northern portion of our service area, having Keith join the Community Foundation board will be a great asset moving forward."

New Staff Member
Foundation Welcomes Sarah Herring
Sarah Herring
The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley continues to experience growth in all aspects of the organization.  One of the more recent examples of this growth came on April 1 with the opening of a new office in Geneva.  To help manage the new office, we are excited to announce that Sarah Herring has joined the staff as a full-time Executive Assistant based in Geneva.

Sarah joined the staff on August 3.  In her current role as Executive Assistant, Sarah will manage the day-to-day operations of the Geneva office.  She will also assist the President with administrative duties, development efforts, social media communications, and interactions with current and prospective donors.

" Having Sarah join the Community Foundation was an important piece of our growth plan going forward," said Sharon Stredde, Community Foundation President.  "She is very professional and has already proven to be a great addition to the Community Foundation in the Tri-Cities.  We are excited to have her on our team and look forward to the role she will play in our development."

For the last eight years, Sarah worked as a special education paraprofessional in Indian Prairie School District 204.  Sarah is a lifelong resident of Aurora and an alumna of West Aurora High School, Waubonsee Community College and Northern Illinois University.

Sarah can be reached at 630-896-7800 or  sherring@communityfoundationfrv.org . Please welcome Sarah to the Community Foundation, and if you are in the area, please stop in and say "Hi."

Kane County Cougars Gathering
Foundation Hosts 3rd Annual Baseball Outing
On August 11 th , the Community Foundation hosted a gathering at a Kane County Cougars game in Geneva. This is the third year the Foundation has hosted this event in a suite at the ballpark.

There were 20 attendees at the game, including board members, donors, and individuals who have recently started funds with the Foundation.

It was a beautiful evening for a ball game with great weather, good food and wonderful company. It was a fun opportunity to meet with individuals involved with the Foundation - and to share in the Cougars' 9-1 victory!

Thank you to everyone who attended the game.  It was a pleasure seeing familiar Foundation friends as well as getting to know new faces.  We hope to see you at the game again next year.
