New Resources on PD/GWSS Board Website

  • Current Research on Spotted Lanternfly: A new collection of spotted lanternfly research is helping us understand the pest's biology and how to contain it. The free collection, curated by the Entomological Society of America’s family of journals, features 25 articles published since 2015, with 16 new additions since June 2020. All of the papers are freely available to read and download through February 16, 2022. This resource is also linked on the PD/GWSS Board spotted lanternfly webpage.

"The Spotted Lanternfly is moving West, South and sometimes North and East"

"Today, in spite of efforts to quarantine the insects, SLF is now present in 26 counties in Pennsylvania and has been found in eight additional states... The important point is that this insect is here, and it’s moving slowly but surely into new locations."

  • What does the SLF look like?
  • How does the SLF travel?
  • What do SLF eat?
  • Are there biological controls or biocides that can protect grapes?
  • Are insecticides a possible solution?
  • What damage occurs on grapevines when SLF feed on them?
  • Where is money come from to support research on SLF?

Survey: Understanding Wildfire Impacts on California Winegrape Production

While some early reports and surveys have estimated wildfire impacts on viticulture and the wine industry, we still have much to learn. The wine industry is invited to share their experiences via a brief survey. Findings will be used to help the industry adapt to the impacts of wildfires and to better inform the allocation of resources and support tied directly to the industry's needs. This project is being conducted as a collaboration of the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service, the USDA California Climate Hub, and the Farm Foundation’s Young Agri-Food Leaders Network program.
