Giving USA  released its report on charitable giving in the United States for 2018. Last year saw the second-highest amount in nominal dollars ever donated. Not as good of news is that giving declined this past year for the first year since the Great Recession. While official infographics are not yet available, other results included, giving by the following groups:

  • Individuals decreased 1.1%
  • Giving by Foundations increased an estimated 7.3%, but giving to foundations decreased by 6.9%
  • Corporations increased by 5.4%
  • Bequests remained relatively flat with a 0.0% increase from 2017

Three fields saw decreased giving:

  • Religion - declined by 1.5%
  • Education - declined by 1.3%
  • Public-society benefit organizations decreased by an estimated 3.7%

Three fields stayed relatively flat:

  • Human services decreased by 0.3%
  • Health orgs had flat growth of 0.1%
  • Arts, culture, and humanities stayed relatively flat, increasing 0.3%

Two fields had increased giving:

  • International affairs increased 9.6%
  • Environment and animal organizations increased 3.6%

Elder Abuse Prevention Workshops -
Peninsula Agency on Aging  is offering two Elder Abuse Prevention workshops specifically designed for clergy, lay leaders and pastoral care staff/volunteers. Attendees will learn to identify when one of their members might be experiencing elder abuse and how to address the situation.

Williamsburg –  June 20  - 8:30 - 11:00 am, St Martin’s Episcopal Church
