February 2024

Message from the President

I don’t know if you feel like me, but each month seems to be moving by quicker than the last. It kind of reminds me of the movement that we are seeing throughout the County. If you have driven down State Drive recently, you will know what I mean. DHL’s newest building is an example of the speed, of modern methods of construction.  Modern methods focus on offsite construction as alternates to traditional building. The use of prefabricated materials can make it seem like the building was erected overnight. (Well maybe in a week!)

Much of the construction that we are seeing is the “build it and they will come” mindset. In many areas of the County, we are seeing a concentration of modernization. This brings many different feelings. Many people see it as a sign of newness and hope. Others see it through the lens of “our county will never be the same.” Both mindsets are appreciated, but I think finding a true balance of economic growth is important.

Economic development should always consider the wellbeing of the population. We need to keep advancing our educational and healthcare systems, improving and maintaining our public infrastructure, transportation, utilities, etc. while maintaining our heritage, while at the same time creating opportunities.

The LVEDC’s mission is to provide gainful employment and business investment opportunities not only for the current generation but also for generations to come. For years, we have strived to make this a reality and have done a great job. Now, as a community we need to take time to have healthy conversations around growth and the future of our County. Taking a close look at barriers such as housing needs, transportation concerns, skill training gaps, childcare, and other areas is critical, so that solutions can be found. Without solutions, we are creating additional barriers that will affect the long-term success of fast paced development.

The County Commissioners along with Lebanon County planning have a good start with their anticipated crafting of a 10-year comprehensive plan. Forward thinking and collaboration will ensure that the County continues on the right path.

In this newsletter, you will see that we have been busy with a variety of activities. Eve Beamesderfer has done a wonderful job promoting our loan programs to the Community. Kathy Kohl and Camryn Beamesderfer are enjoying time out in the Community. They had a great ENGAGE! visit with Bill at Keystone Precision Cylinder and took some time to see if the groundhog (Uni) would see his shadow. The prediction – Six short weeks until Spring. Camryn recently received professional training and earned a Basic Economic Development Certification.  She has also been busy promoting the Organization through social media.

The new year also brought in changes. We helped to welcome Luxe Rejuvena into the Community, a new supporting member to LVEDC, and a new CareerLink site Administrator.

Enjoy the updates, statistics, and remember to support CLA's cherry pie event and think Spring!

6 Weeks Till Spring!

Myerstown Park held their annual Groundhog Day event with the famous Uni, the groundhog. Uni sailed down the creek before predicting an early Spring this year!

The people of the community continue to heavily support this event with an attendance of around 150 people including some extra spirit through clothing or props.

Introducing... Luxe Rejuvena

Cornwall Commons continues to grow as the grand opening of a new Med Spa took place this week. Self-care is taken to a whole new level at Luxe Rejuvena with a wide range of treatment and services available.

Susan Eberly congratulates Dr. Rikka Banayat on her accomplishment and is confident the community will enjoy this addition to the Cornwall Commons.

Feeling Accomplished

Our newest member of the LVEDC Staff, Camryn Krall, just completed and received her certification for the Pennsylvania Basic Economic Development Course in Harrisburg. The class consisted of various economic courses as well as other topics such as finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, and more. They also had multiple speakers from the economic world presenting valuable insight and experience as Economic Developers. The class held around 50 students from many different areas including out of state. Camryn is eager to apply the information she learned to future projects and business calls. Feel free to send her a message of congratulations at ckrall@lvedc.org

Engage! Visit

Keystone Precision Cylinder

The staff members set out this week to visit Bill Batdorf and to see his new expansion at Keystone Precision Cylinder. We got a tour of the facility and high-tech machinery. If you are looking for any Hydraulic Services, look no further than Myerstown's Keystone Precision. We were glad to share our workforce and finance resources with him!

"I'm born and raised in the Lebanon area and graduated from Cedar Crest High School in 2012. Growing up, my friends and I always felt that there wasn't a lot going on in the area. We felt there was a mall, a couple shops, restaurants, and a lot of banks. Since then, we've all acknowledged the clear economic growth that our beautiful hometown has undergone. When I heard of the Lebanon Valley Economic Development Corporation, I knew I wanted to get involved and assist with that growth by helping both the businesses and the workers. After high school I studied and worked at TE Connectivity in Lickdale until I was ready to pursue my professional passion and joined Edward Jones as a Financial Advisor in 2023. Edward Jones is a different kind of investment firm. To us, face time and think time make sense. We meet with you to learn your individual needs so we can develop a strategy to help you achieve your long-term financial goals.

Having the opportunity to aid in the community through charities and organizations means a lot to me. I'm always looking for ways to get involved and help make an impact. You'll see me assisting with other causes from time-to-time such as Odyssey of the Mind and The Community of Lebanon Association. I'm grateful for the opportunity to join you at the LVEDC and assist in any way I can!"

Workforce Development is a critical piece of a good economy. The LVEDC continues to collaborate with the workforce community.
