About Historic Preservation Tracker:

Historic Preservation Tracker is the City of Houston's online application submission portal for Certificates of Appropriateness, requests for design review, nominations for new protected landmarks, landmarks and historic districts. The new Historic Preservation Tracker replaces an outdated application developed in-house more than 10 years ago. Before launching the new Historic Preservation Tracker, the Planning and Development Department created a focus group inviting previous applicants to test the new system and give feedback.

Historic Preservation Tracker enables:

  • property owners and their agents to submit applications for Certificates of Appropriateness, Design Review, nominations for protected landmarks/landmarks, and historic districts for review and presentation to the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission;
  • applicants and the public to track the progress of these applications;
  • the general public to keep up with historic properties in their neighborhoods.

The new Preservation Tracker will additionally:

  •  improve efficiency with a dashboard information display;
  • improve search capabilities for the public;
  • streamline the application process;
  • provide an intuitive user interface that is easy to navigate;
  •  integrate external systems such as geographic information systems;
  • online payments will be accepted.

Please be aware:

  • Draft Applications will not be migrated to the new Historic Preservation Tracker. Draft applications are applications that have been created, but have not been submitted yet. Applicants will create a new draft application on the new system after it goes live.
  • Users names and passwords will be the same in the new system.
