If you are shopping for a new home, a condominium or a townhome in Cherokee County, these are some things you should know.

Cherokee is in the northwest corner of Metropolitan Atlanta and includes the cities of Woodstock, Canton, Holly Springs, Ball Ground and Waleska.  Some Cherokee County new home communities also may carry addresses with nearby cities of Acworth and Alpharetta.  The county was established in 1830 after the discovery of gold in the region in 1828.  It was built on land held by the Cherokee Nations, giving the county its name. 

The county is easily accessed via I-75 North and I-575, which bisects the county.  The "Northwest Corridor Project" recently added lanes to I-75 between Atlanta and Cherokee, at a cost of $1.5 billion, expediting the flow of traffic in and out of the Northwest Corridor.  

Atlanta Regional Commission Senior Communications Director, Jim Janquish describes the area this way, "The northern suburbs are growing quickly due to relatively low housing costs and good schools," he said. "Cherokee is seen as a good place to raise a family. Woodstock and Canton are vibrant, growing communities that attract singles and families to the area. Outside of those more urban areas there is plenty of land and there are numerous affordable, attractive neighborhoods all around."

The county is known as "where the metro meets the mountains," with nine summits in the northern and western parts of the county including Bear Mountain at 2,297 feet.  At the southern end of the county is Lake Allatoona, a man made U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake. Lake Allatoona offers eight privately-owned marinas, two yacht clubs, and 15 boat ramps, making Allatoona one of the most-used Corps of Engineers projects in the United States.  

Currently there are more than 100 new home subdivisions, condominiums and/or townhome communities which are actively selling new homes in Cherokee County, with prices ranging from the 150s to more than 600s.  Because of the suburban nature of the county, you are more likely to find large lots than in other counties closer in to Atlanta.  Townhome and Active Adult Communities are also to be found.  All of the Cherokee County new home communities are mapped and listed on
