Give back to the community! Volunteers needed for Fall Family Fair at our partner school, Henry Marsh Elementary
Our partners at Communities in Schools and the Henry Marsh Elementary School Attendance Team are currently planning a Fall Family Fair to connect families to community resources and engage them in some family fun! The event will take place outdoors at Henry L. Marsh Elementary School on November 5, from 1:00-3:00 PM. We’ve been partnered with this school, (formerly George Mason E.S.) for over a decade and we are thrilled at the opportunity to serve at the school after a pandemic-induced hiatus!

Christ Church volunteers are needed to distribute donated books to children and to serve as station monitors. What a wonderful way to serve families and share Christian hospitality!

Leader voices needed! Looking for ways to give back? Consider serving on our Vestry
In the Episcopal Church, the Vestry is the lay leadership body that guides and empowers the ministries of the parish. It has many responsibilities, the greatest of which is praying for the congregation and discerning, with the congregation’s input, the path God offers for Christ Church. Each year, four new persons are elected to serve 3-year terms.

The Vestry encourages anyone who feels called to the ministry of the vestry, and who is a pledging confirmed communicant in good standing, to consider nominating themselves to stand for election. The term of service is three years, beginning January 2022. Simply email Rev. Shirley to state your desire to serve and you'll receive more information about the commitment. All nominations must be received by November 24.

Scout to create a new Hospitality Station on CCE Campus. Donate to the cause or attend the Car Wash this Sunday
Scout Nicky Tyler is giving back! As part of earning the achievement of Eagle Scout, he is creating a "hospitality area" for our community to use. A patio area, benches, table, and "October glory" maple tree will reside near the Garage Building, where many exercisers and dog-walkers frequently pass through. The final touch will be an engraved stone: "Love One Another, As I Have Loved You."
Nicky says, "This project will provide a pleasant shaded space for people passing through the church exercising, walking dogs, or visiting. They will be able to rest, tie their shoes, put their things down, sit down on a bench, or use the space as they please as they are on the Christ Church campus. This area can also be used by church members and study groups as a peaceful place to meet or sit."

How can you help?
  1. Pray for Nicky as he is on this special journey.
  2. Stop by the Car Wash at Christ Church on Sunday, October 24, 11:30 AM - 4 PM. (Don't forget some cash or donate with the link below.)
  3. Click here to donate to the cause so Nicky can purchase the supplies needed.

Bishop Search Committee Invites You to Participate in Survey and Listening Sessions
The Bishop Search Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia invites you to complete the landscape survey to engage with them as they prepare to call the next Bishop of Virginia. They ask you to prayerfully respond to the questions and seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance as you do. The survey is anonymous and will be open until Friday, October 29. The Diocese wants a strong response from every corner of the Diocese, so please make time for this as you are able!
Attend a Virtual Listening Session
The search committee will conduct virtual listening sessions to give all members of the Diocese an opportunity to share your hopes for our new bishop. All listening sessions will be held via Zoom. Registration is required.

Christ Church is committed to serving one Tuesday and one Saturday each month. On Saturdays, we join our friends from West End Islamic Center, so it's an opportunity to provide food for those in need and extend a hand of hospitality to our Muslim neighbors. To sign up, please contact lay leader Kevin Van Natta. Kevin's contact information is listed in our online database, Realm. If you need help with Realm, or with obtaining contact info, please contact staff. We're happy to help!
