Greetings!

More than 1.5 million students in U.S. public schools are identified as experiencing homelessness—but many more may be going unseen.

ICPH's new policy brief, Undercounted and Underserved? Students Experiencing Homelessness in the U.S., reveals a critical gap: 320,500 students may not be identified—and therefore may not be consistently connected to the full range of supports available to them.

This policy brief is meant to spark an important conversation about how we measure, identify, and ultimately support students experiencing homelessness. Better data is the first step toward better outcomes—and while this approach is not a final answer, it points to the need for new ways to more accurately understand the true scope of student homelessness.

Homeless Memorial Blanket Project

December 2026 | New York City

This is a growing national and international initiative to bring greater public awareness about all types of homelessness through public blanket displays and donations to those in need. In 2026, the Memorial Blanket Project will be coming to NYC on National Homelessness Remembrance Day, a day to day to honor those who have died while experiencing homelessness. There will be opportunities for individuals, shelters, and community partners to receive blankets. Those interested in the NYC project, which will be held in Stuyvesant Park—or in coordinating a display in their own town or city—can get involved.
