ITRC has released an updated and expanded version of its PFAS Technical and Regulatory Web Guidance Document (PFAS-1). This comprehensive update builds on the trusted foundation of earlier PFAS resources while incorporating the latest science, emerging issues, and practical lessons learned from real-world applications.

Designed for state agencies, consultants, and other environmental stakeholders, the updated PFAS-1 Guidance reflects the rapidly evolving PFAS landscape and provides actionable, science-based information to support more informed, consistent, and effective site management decisions.

The expanded PFAS-1 guidance introduces new and enhanced content across several priority topic areas, including:

  • History, use, and naming conventions
  • Firefighting foams
  • Fate and transport, surface water, source identification, and site characterization
  • Human and ecological health effects
  • Sampling and analysis
  • Treatment technologies
  • Biosolids land application
  • PFAS and microplastics

This release also includes expanded guidance on sorption-based technologies for PFAS separation and concentration from water, with detailed information on the selection and design of treatment approaches such as fixed bed adsorption and foam fractionation.

In addition, PFAS-1 now features a new PFAS and Vapor Intrusion Fact Sheet, along with new case studies that highlight practical, real-world applications of PFAS investigation and management strategies.
