Tundra - New Ice Themed Restaurant opening in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

A hot new restaurant concept coming to Las Olas
Boulevard hopes to give diners a very cool new experience.
Tundra, an ice-themed restaurant, promises a
wonderland of ice and art: Ice globes, which are exactly what they sound like, will light up and serve as some of the lamp fixtures inside the restaurant. Towering chiseled ice sculptures with flowers and other decorative items frozen inside them will line the walls of the dining room and an outdoor patio along Las Olas.
"You've never see anyone pair ice and food like this before," said David Berman, creator and co-owner. "This is my passion."
Berman's background includes a 12-year stint as executive chef at the Broward County Convention Center. He's also owned Sculptured Ice Creations for 16 years, which supplies scultped ice art accents for events across Florida.
Berman partnered with Alex Podolny, an international restaurateur with establishments in New York and Miami, to open Tundra.
"This could be an expensive venture, but I have the means to do it," Berman said.
Tundra will serve crystal clear "chilling spheres" in cocktails instead of ice cubes. The 2.25-inch clear ice ball is stored in a freezer at zero degrees.
Menu items range in price from "Tundratizer" small plate options for $5 to hot and cold dinner entrees from $12 to $40, like stuffed prawn with red curried crab or a center cut beef tenderloin. Items like a duck breast prosciutto will be served on ice flatware.
The signature menu item is the Tundra Taste Tour, which offers small-plate options of 16 menu items for $59 per person and is offered only from 6-11 p.m.
The restaurant will go through 10,000-pounds or 78 blocks of ice, in flatware, sculptures, light fixtures and drinks per week. Although the restaurant has freezers to hold ice dishes and plates, most of the sculpted ice creations will be shipped in from Berman's ice sculpting business in Deerfield Beach.
