Apprentice Graduation

New-Indy Catawba congratulates the three latest graduates of New-Indy Catawba’s Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice program. Chris Kennington, Kris Carter, and Chandler Gardner recently met the requirements for a Journeyman Certificate. New-Indy’s 10,000-hour training program is not only challenging for the apprentices, their families, and the support group at the mill, it also is recognized in the community as a best practice in workforce training.

Monitor Program

New-Indy Catawba to Conclude Offsite Monitoring Program

New-Indy Catawba currently maintains five continuous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) monitors in the surrounding neighborhoods of Catawba Headstart, Treetops, Liberty Hill, Riverchase Estates and Millstone Creek, in addition to five H2S monitors on the mill’s property.

Since the monitors were installed in 2021, the H2S readings have continued to trend toward negligible, accompanied by a steady decline in odor complaints. Given these great results, New-Indy is discontinuing the five offsite monitors but will maintain the five monitors on site at the mill.

The notification to the public concerning this activity is posted on www.newindycatwaba.com.

Monitor Report

Hydrogen Sulfide Monitors Continue to Show Low Readings

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) readings at New-Indy Catawba and in the surrounding community have been zero or negligible for more than three years.

The 24-hour averages for H2S recorded in parts per billion (ppb) in August were minimal – more than 30 times below the 14-day exposure limit (70 ppb) set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

New-Indy Catawba has been monitoring H2S at the mill and in the community since May 2021. Daily reports are generated by monitors and are posted on www.newindycatawba.com
