New-Indy Releases Animation Highlighting Remediation Efforts

New-Indy Catawba recently released an animation video highlighting many of the mill’s remediation efforts. The animation illustrates improvements and enhancements to the Aeration Stabilization Basin, the Equalization Basin, Sludge Pond 4, the Post Aeration Basin, and more.

Most recently, New-Indy Catawba completed construction on a massive containment system that captures and refines excess and used chemicals and recycles them back into the system.

New-Indy’s new animation video highlights remediation efforts and improvements since 2019 when New Indy purchased the mill.

New-Indy Catawba Completes Another Successful Palmetto Bowl

Last month, New-Indy Catawba held its annual Palmetto Bowl Food Drive. The event – named for the South Carolina rivalry between the University of South Carolina and Clemson University – asks employees to donate food in honor of their favorite college football team. The team with the most items donated wins. New-Indy Catawba then flies the flag of the winning team and mill manager Chris Loach wears the winning team’s jersey. All the food collected was donated to a local food bank. This year, 963 items went to the Fort Lawn Community Center.

New-Indy Catawba has been monitoring hydrogen sulfide at the mill and in the community since May 2021. Daily reports are generated by monitors and are posted on www.newindycatawba.com

A local high school student learns how to weld during New-Indy’s internship program.

NEW-INDY NUGGET

New-Indy Catawba provides an important but little-known internship program to local high school students. The mill hosts interns from regional high schools each semester and gives them meaningful, hands-on training.

One recent intern group completed a welding class. Brothers Shaun and Mitch Williams, owners of Williams Fabrication, hosted interns for a free, half-day class that taught them how to weld and understand what good welds look like. This is one example of the many opportunities and benefits New-Indy Catawba provides the local community.
