The Department on Disability (DOD) is seeking to fill one exempt Assistant Executive Director position. 

DUTIES

The duties of the Assistant Executive Director Department on Disability position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Department.
  • Activities include supervising staff to implement internal and external projects and to achieve identified objectives of the Executive Director; manages Human Resources and staffing to include hiring, coaches employees and subordinate managers to maximize engagement, growth, and performance; implements programs that solve internal and external problems and maximizes operational effectiveness and efficiency; and coordinates and supervises day-to-day programs and operations and establishes policies to improve Department culture.
  • Oversees budgetary, legislative, and strategic planning processes.
  • Manages communications and public relations, interfaces with media, government officials, department directors, business leaders, advocacy groups, constituents, and others on behalf of the Department.
  • Drafts internal and external communications and policies on behalf of the Executive Director and the Department.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of speeches, articles, or other communications and news releases and sets up press conferences for the Executive Director and the Department.
  • Answers inquiries, resolves complaints, and interprets operating policies for the Executive Director and the Department.
  • Manages public outreach, accessible messaging, and emergency management efforts.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate should reflect the following:

  • The preferred candidate will have knowledge and experience applying, offering, guiding, and advising constituents, government entities, and/or community organizations on practical implementation in areas of compliance with applicable ADA laws/edicts in a variety of circumstances.
  • The preferred candidate must be able to work independently as well as follow instructions, policy guidelines, and directives of the Department’s Executive Director.
  • The preferred candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, must be highly motivated and responsible.

Minimum Requirements

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university; and two years of full-time paid managerial/supervisory experience in administering programs that provide service to the disabled community, or advocate and promote policies and issues that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities; or
  2. Three years of full-time paid managerial/supervisory experience in general administration, grants administration, or employment programs; or
  3. Three years of full-time paid experience in a disability services department of a federal, state, or municipal government, managing, directing, monitoring, coordinating, or planning the support services to people with disabilities in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

HOURS

Hours are flexible but must be available to work weekends and night shifts, which may vary weekly depending on operational needs.
