Thanks to YOU, we served 48 people this month, including:

9 Single Individuals

13 Families

20 Children

Guests ranged in age from 8 months to 68 years old

What a wonderful month here at Talbot Interfaith Shelter! Many of our guests are celebrating milestones on their paths to Success, thanks to YOU and your incredible support!

Take a look at what you made possible this month:

One of our singles from Evelyn's Place, Janine, moved into her own housing!

Three more guests at Evelyn's Place started new jobs in July. Josh began working at Harris Teeter, Latoya has a new position at The Lab Childcare, and Barry is now at Acme Markets. Congratulations to all!

Two of the mothers at our family shelter, Easton's Promise, are also celebrating this month. One secured two jobs in July, one of which is in her field of study - peer support for recovery. Her 14 year old daughter also started working as a volunteer camp counselor at the YMCA. Another mom (of a very active 3 year old) graduated from her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program! We are so happy for them!

Nia, one of the single individuals in transitional housing, was accepted into the workforce program through DORS (Division of Rehabilitation Services). She will be on campus at the Workforce Technology Center in Baltimore. Way to go, Nia!

Case Manager Roland Groce has been facilitating the Money Fundamentals course at Easton's Promise with guests from both the shelter and transitional housing program. Two guests completed the class!

In addition, the "Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin' By World" Program continues at Evelyn's Place. During this 13-week course, guests learn about the root causes of poverty, the hidden societal rules that can help or hinder progress, how to utilize the resources available to them to regain independence, and how to wean off of those resources as they become more self-sufficient.

"Getting Ahead" is structured as a moderated conversation, which leads to many robust discussions among the guests. Last week, they spoke about a different way to look at so-called "failures." The guests decided that, rather than seeing them as setbacks, they should instead think of them as building blocks that can help them move forward. We love listening to these wonderful and thoughtful interactions... Our guests learn just as much from each other as they do from our life skills classes!

Your generous support makes all of this possible. We are continuously humbled by and so appreciative that we have extraordinary partners like YOU in the fight against homelessness.

Be on the lookout in your mailboxes for our annual report so that you can see a recap of the Shelter, Stability, Support, and Successes you provided for our guests during the 2022/2023 fiscal year. The mailer also includes a powerful letter written by one of the mothers in our transitional housing, where she talks about her experience with TIS and the S4 Program.

Below is a video about another mother, Gindine, and her two children, who joined us at Easton's Promise about two months ago. We hope you will take a few moments to watch Gindine's story so that you can see the profound impact you have already had on this family.

Gindine's Story

We need your continued help to ensure that our neighbors in need have the time, resources, knowledge, and tools move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Our expansion in shelter capacity, programming, and staff, coupled with the rising cost of goods and services, has increased our operating budget to $1.3 million dollars for the 2023/2024 fiscal year. We hope you will consider making a donation in support of our mission so that we can continue opening the doors to Success for neighbors like Gindine, Josh, Latoya, Nia, Barry, and others!

TIS Supporters Host Events to Benefit our Mission!

Several times each year, wonderful supporters host small events to raise money and awareness for Talbot Interfaith Shelter. The most recent such event was a Pit Beef Fundraiser held at the VFW this month by the talented Jamie Petrides. Jamie's delicious food sold out in just an hour and a half, and the lunchtime event helped to garner much-needed funds and publicity in support of our mission. Other supporters have held raffles, in-home gatherings, bake sales, community nights at local restaurants, and more.

If you or your business or organization are interested in hosting an event for TIS, please contact our Director of Development and Marketing, Laura Richeson, at lauraricheson@talbotinterfaithshelter.org or 443-786-6962.

It's hard to believe it, but our TIS Kids will be heading back to school in a matter of weeks! If you would like to help provide school supplies for the students in our shelters and transitional apartments, please reach out to our Director of Operations, Fran Doran at 410-253-5414 or frandoran@talbotinterfaithshelter.org. Thank you so much in advance for making sure our kids have a great start to the new school year!
