New Bills Introduced by Lawmakers

Focus on Homeownership in NJ

New bills have advanced through the NJ State Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee this month. Highlights include:

• A Homeowner assistance voucher program
• Protection for tenants from lead in drinking water
• Assistance to weatherize homes in order to conserve energy
• Expansion of eviction bans on seniors and disabled
• Increase support for affordable housing for veterans

New Help is Here for Your Clients Affected by Hurricane Ida

The NEXUS Legislative Committee's Municipal Monitor reported on new programs to help homeowners and renters. Some include:

• The Homeowner Assistance and Recovery Program will provide up to $300,000 to eligible homeowners to restore homes.

• The Small Rental Repair Program offers forgivable loans to rental property owners.

• The Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program provides rent assistance for lower-income families.

• Housing counseling and legal services will support nonprofits and legal organizations offering Hurricane Ida assistance.

Ocean County Will Pay $7.5 Million for Beach Replenishment Project

The entire local cost ($7.5 million) of a planned beach replenishment project for the northern barrier island will be paid by Ocean County Government.
