These Are the New Illinois Laws Taking Effect in 2021

What Should I do if I am a Victim of the Unemployment Scam?
|
|
There is an increase in the unemployment scam and it is happening in our area.
How can I spot unemployment insurance identity theft?
- You receive a debit card or an unemployment insurance letter (UI Finding) and have not filed a claim for benefits.
- You are notified by your employer that a claim for benefits has been filed when you have not been separated from employment.
- You attempt to file a claim online and one already exits.
- You receive IRS correspondence regarding unreported UI benefits.
- You receive notice of a state or federal tax offset.
What steps should I take if I receive a debit card or a UI Finding letter, and did not file for unemployment benefits?
If you suspect a claim has been submitted using your information, and you have not applied for unemployment insurance benefits in Illinois, take steps as follows:
-
Report the fraudulent claim here.
- DO NOT activate the debit card that was mailed to you.
- DO NOT contact KeyBank.
-
Request your free credit reports via www.annualcreditreport.com and review them for other fraudulent activities.
I also read that you should do the following.
-
Call the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877 382-4357 or go to www.identitytheft.gov
- Notify all banks, credit card companies and credit agencies that your Social Security Number was stolen
- File a police report due to SSN being stolen
- Notify the Social Security Office that SSN has been stolen.
- If you receive any unemployment documents in the mail, fax a letter to IDES at (217) 557-4913, indicate this is a fraud claim, indicate that you did not file and attach copies of the information you received from IDES.
The police chief in Mundelein said they are receiving between 3 and 5 reports a day.

Consider Adopting a Fire Hydrant
|
|
Countryside Fire Protection District’s Adopt-A-Hydrant Program is a voluntary community activity that enables residents to take ownership of a fire hydrant within their neighborhood. Through this program, Countryside relies on the resident’s year-round efforts to keep hydrants visible by maintaining them trash and weed free; and in the winter, by keeping snow away from the fire hydrants. In addition, residents willing to adopt a fire hydrant can also report any damages or leaks to the Fire District. More information. If you live in another fire district, I am sure they appreciate you taking care of the fire hydrant also.

|

Lamb's Farm Accepting Tree and Wreath Donations for Animals
|
|
I saw this on the Lamb's Farm Facebook page.
It's Joseph's favorite time of year! That's right, Lamb's Farm is accepting Christmas tree and wreath donations!
Christmas trees and wreaths are a healthy treat and enrichment activity for their friends. They play with them and use the trees as a scratching post!
Tree drop off is located at the Farmyard. Please do your best to remove all decorations. As always, Animal Keepers will carefully inspect all trees and wreaths before giving them to the animals.
|
|
If Groot is your waste hauler in unincorporated Fremont Township, they will collect Christmas trees from January 2 through January 29. Trees must be free of decorations, tinsel, tree stands, and plastic. Place trees at the curb on your normal garbage collection day.
For unincorporated Fremont Township Groot customers, the next electronic recycling at your curb is on January the 8th. You must call to schedule the pickup at 847 693-2700.
The Forest Preserve is also accepting trees.
Don’t send your Christmas tree to the landfill, drop it off for recycling.
Donated trees are chipped and used for trails and landscaping at forest preserves throughout Lake County.
Bring your tree to a drop-off site at one of the following forest preserves, open daily from 6:30 am to sunset:
-
Grant Woods in Fox Lake—drop trees off at Monaville Road entrance, second parking lot.
-
Greenbelt in Waukegan—drop trees off next to maintenance facility.
-
Half Day in Vernon Hills—drop trees off next to maintenance facility.
-
Heron Creek in Long Grove—drop trees off at Shelter A.
-
Lakewood in Wauconda—drop trees off along Forest Preserve Drive.
-
Old School in Libertyville—drop trees off near main entrance.
-
Ryerson Woods in Deerfield—drop trees off at the end of main entrance road.
-
Van Patten Woods in Wadsworth—drop trees off just past the Shelter A parking area.
Drop-offs accepted at the marked sites only between December 26 and February 1.
Only undecorated, real Christmas trees can be accepted; no yard waste. Commercial drop-offs are prohibited.
