NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, March 27. We will have two speakers. One on Energy and one on Climate Science. Kenric Scheevel, Government Affairs Representative from Dairyland Cooperative will speak on "America's energy policy- Becoming Visionary or Becoming Vulnerable?". Professor Emeritus Terry Flower of Saint Catherine University will speak on "Understanding Climate Change". Our energy costs will skyrocket because of increasing EPA regulations. Climate change is used to justify every thing from the kind of lightbulbs we can buy to car mileage requirements to property regulation.  Both speakers have promised to tell it like it is. Each will answer questions after their presentations. This will be a good one. Rochester Eagles Club. Meet and Greet: 6:30PM. Open mic: 6:45. Meeting starts at 7:00.

NEW LAYOUT
This week's Newsletter uses a new layout to try to make better use of the space available. We are learning and it may take a few issues before we get it straight. If you have a comment or suggestion, pro or con, please send us an email at rochesterteaparty@gmail.com. Thanks.

STATE AND NATIONAL TOPICS
SURVEILLANCE
Senator Diane Feinstein defended surveillance last summer when she said it was "protecting America". Last week, she indignantly claimed the CIA had improperly searched Senate computers. John Stewart was having none of it. He thought she should have been equally outraged when private citizens' data was collected, not just when the Congress is being spied upon.

A new book: "The New Digital Age: Reshaping the Future of People, Nations and Business (Schmidt / Cohen) is very informative. It contains eyeopening information about the size, sophistication and scope of today's internet and surveillance capabilities (for better and for worse). Wordy but worthwhile.

OBAMACARE
Signups among the uninsured remain devastatingly low. This group was the one used to justify this program. They cannot afford it.

MNSURE
Signups on Minnesota's healthcare exchange, MNSURE, remain low. This program is projected to have a shortfall of $5 Million next year.

NORTHSTAR RAIL
Delays on the rail line from the Twin Cities to Big Lake have been a problem this winter. Taxpayers subsidize 83% of the cost of each ticket.

BOOKS MOVIES & DVD'S

The new movie from Dinesh D'Souza: "America: Imagine the world without her."

Our founding fathers warned us that the freedoms they gave us were hard fought, but could very easily be lost. America stands at a crossroads, and the way we understand our past will determine our future. America the movie takes 21st-century Americans into the future by first visiting our past.

America movie will be out this summer.

The Tipping Point  book by Malcolm Gladwell
Are you talking about the idea of memes, that has become so popular in academic circles recently? It's very similar. A meme is a idea that behaves like a virus-that moves through a population, taking hold in each person it infects.
