We are excited to share news about the future of the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center.
After a thoughtful and thorough search, our Board of Trustees has appointed Jonny Farrow as our new Executive Director, beginning July 1, 2026. This
moment marks not just a leadership transition, but the start of a new chapter
for our community at the Carving Studio.
Jonny comes to us as an accomplished contemporary sculptor, educator, and builder of communities. Jonny appreciates his connection to the Carving Studio having been a participant in Carving Studio workshops. Since then, he’s gone on to teach at the university level and played an important role in launching New York University’s MFA program in Abu Dhabi as well as other global initiatives.
He brings both a deep respect for traditional materials—stone, metal, and wood—and an expansive, forward-thinking vision for the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center.
What stood out most about Jonny throughout the search process was his genuine understanding of what makes the Carving Studio special: the artists, the historic marble quarry that serves as its remarkable setting, and the shared belief in the power of creating.
In Jonny’s words:
“The Carving Studio is a gem—its location, history, and community make it one of the most unique carving centers anywhere. Surrounded by Vermont marble, it reflects a powerful connection between stone, earth, and the human spirit. I look forward to helping continue to shape the path forward in artistic excellence and collaboration.”
