New Class!

Composite Stitches
(also available as a webinar class)
2nd Saturday of each month, August 2021 Ithrough January 2022
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe, Jacksonville, FL

This will be our fifth sampler book, this time on composite band stitches. These stitches are a combination of two or more stitches. They will include easy stitches for beginners and a few challenging stitches for experienced stitchers. These band stitches are excellent choices for crazy quilts!

This is a brand new sampler book and no prior classes are required.

If you're out of town and would like to stitch with us, the class is also being offered online as a WebEx meeting.

Stitches & Techniques
Each month this section will highlight a new-to-me stitch or technique. I will share a pdf of the technique or a video link so you too may learn along with me. Click here to visit our website for additional tutorials.

This is Fall Nature's Bounty, a highlight of our 2015 Tea & Stitches Retreat. We featured the four seasons by learning different techniques to embellish each seasonal tree.

The apples on this Fall tree were a show stopper! Using the Spiral Trellis Stitch, Jo stitched each apple in a different thread or ribbon to showcase the unique effects of each thread and ribbon.

Click here for this month's technique, the Spiral Trellis Stitch. Although it is not a new-to-me stitch, it is one of my favorites!

The Spiral Trellis Stitch is perfect for:

  • Flower Centers
  • Berries
  • Christmas Tree Balls
  • Fruit, such as apples, oranges, grapes

The possibilities are endless! Enjoy!

Please remember the Stitches & Techniques pages and any accompanying patterns are copyrighted and FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE ONLY. They may not be copied, duplicated or shared in any format without permission.
On the Design Wall

Our Embroidery Stitch Sampler 6-month class just started. Here are some of the stitches I am sharing with the class.

There is still time to join the fun. You can register here for an in-person class or the Zoom class.
The broderie perse appliqué is progressing on my Mariner's Compass, designed by Rita Verroca.

Although all of the broderie perse is not completely appliquéd in place, I could not resist adding some touches of embroidery!

The birds crown is the drizzle stitch. You can find instructions for the drizzle stitch here.

The leaves on the flower were embellished with the fishbone stitch. Instructions for the fishbone stitch can be found in Jan's booklet, Hand Embroidery Stitches at a Glance, available here.

Borderie perse invites you to add embroidered embellishment and definitely enhances the beauty of the appliqued!
Work also continues on my Tumbling Blocks.

I love the Whig Rose block adaptation Rita used in her original quilt!

We recently pieced a Mariner's Compass. I love Rita's method of hand piecing a Mariner's Compass!

The pieced setting and corner triangles have been fun and sometimes challenging.

Rita has taught us much, from fabric selection to hand piecing. I recommend a class with her!

She offers classes on Zoom as well as in person throughout the country. You can visit her web page here.
In Honor of Mom
It is hard to believe it was one year ago on September 19 that our beloved Mom took wing to heaven.

We are so very grateful for all of her love, kindness, tenderness, patience and goodness. Her example of how to navigate through life, in all situations and through every season, with grace, elegance, perseverance, a touch of laughter and her contagious smile, is a gift beyond measure.

Thank you, Mom, for encouraging your girls' creativity, and for giving us the gift of all things needle and thread.

May we honor you by sharing with others the gifts you shared with us.

You are dearly missed, more than words could ever say. We love you forever and always.
Stitching Companions
Today, September 7, is Doogan's 13th birthday!

This sweetie has been a part of our lives for his 13 short years. Doogan still makes us laugh every day with his silly antics.

He may be slower these days, but his happy personality teaches us daily lessons.

Happy Birthday Doogan! Here's to many, many more with our sweet boy!
In Closing
September 9 is Teddy Bear Day! Here is a good article on the history of the Teddy Bear and how to celebrate the day.

One suggestion to celebrate the day is to give a teddy bear to someone. What better way to give a teddy bear to someone than through the Rare Bear program.

You can make a simple one-of-a-kind teddy bear for a child with a rare disease. Click here for a video on how the bears are made. For more information about the program, click here.
Until next month,
Stay well, stay safe, and
Stay Stitching,
